Thanks for the link, something like this would be ideal for many stations looking for tropo paths.

While people could use an omni, this will be picking up signals (interference) from directions other than those that you desire.

Some people want to bridge the Bight path, others to New Zealand, and many more. If you can get a good main lobe out the direction you desire, and a bit of attenuation of rearward signals (noise/interference), then you stand to gain a lot more knowledge about your desired path and the conditions in general.

This little yagi would be a good thing.

They make really quality antennas that last but I do not understand why do they charge for AIS anntennas more than double?!Just compare prices for 3 or 4 el. AIS yagi and those for 144 MHZ.

I think the exact same antenna. But not checked very hard I admit.

Another difference with the eBay item is "Marine grade Stainless Steel Fittings (Except Mast clamp)". I'm almost certain the more expensive product will have marine grade SS everywhere including the mast clamp. No mention of sealant supplied with the eBay item either ... or a quality N-Type termination. Add them together and there is pretty much the difference between the prices.

The "factory item" is promoted as the "Professional Series" ... no mention of that on the eBay item.

They appear the same, both being 3 element AIS antennas, but are different product packages for different markets.
