CW skimmer and Signalink interface

Post by VK4WDM »

I am just in the process of a major re-arrangement of my station. The main focus is moving digital ops from the FT-847 to the IC-756-PRO3 which will include the installation of my new interface the Tigertronics Signalink USB.

I am sure to have some questions to ask along the way, but a pressing one is this: I intend giving (CW purists cover your eyes) "CW skimmer" a try. The Signalink has its own sound card and derives its audio from the accessory socket on the back of the transceiver rather than the aux speaker jack (I think that is correct). Will this still work OK with CW skimmer or do I need to bypass the Signalink and run a line to carry the audio directly from the speaker jack to the computer sound card?

Please reply in simple language. I am an IT-challenged semi-geriatric and easily confused

Why not just try it. Experimentation is good.
I think the only issue is cw skimmer- it has to be configured to take digital sigs from the second sound card rather than the windows default sound card.

I do digital modes & CW Skimmer using just one sound card but you need a seperate Com port, CW Skimmer is no good for weak sigs but good for netting
a calling station

Wayne,

I use the SigL-USB on Digi modes and on the odd occasion with skimmer.
It works.

Thank you for all the info guys. I will give it ago. I don't need 100% computer copy of cw, just some help when my hearing problem gets in the way and I miss important things like call signs.
