Grain of wheat 50mA lamps

Post by VK3ALB »

Hi,

I'm looking for a source of 50mA "grain of wheat" lamps. I know Dick Smith used to sell them (P-8132) but they now sell a replacement that is not the same thing. I guess all light globes look the same at DSE.

Yep for DSE, as long as it glows, its a lamp.

Try WES (http://www.wescomponents.com/), the second section (components) in particular page 2-21. They don't have 50mA ones, but have 30 and 60mA units. The smallest being 2.3mm. Let me know if you don't have any luck there with what you need. May have some one hand for you. Will have to have a look for confirmation on this.

Regards

Wayne

Can you not fit a white LED (with series resistor) instead?
Will never have to replace it, and much less current drawn.

Well wonders will never cease. I went to DSE anyway to take another look and they had some LES 12V 50mA bulbs (P-8155) - just what I needed. The price had not changed since 2006 and at 68 cents each I thought it prudent to buy an extra one, hang the expense. HI!

Adam, I don't need them for illumination they're destined for a two-tone oscillator.

Thanks to those that replied.

I found a reasonable replacement on ebay that is a little longer than the standard bulb and draws 60mA at 12V. If you really need to have grain of wheat lamps these might suit your purpose.

Just for general info, JAYCAR also has a good selection of 'Grain of Wheat' in various voltages and sizes.
