Brisbane Microwave Test/Tuneup Day 2012

Post by VK4EA »

The Brisbane VHF Group will be conducting a microwave test/tuneup day 16th of September.

Venue this year is the Redcliffe and Districts Radio Club, Klinger Rd, Kippa Ring (VK4RC-1 APRS object - http://aprs.fi/#!mt=roadmap&z=11&call=a ... range=3600).

A wide range of test gear for 1.2 to 24GHz will be available, all are welcome to bring their projects, finished or not to show off and/or test. Doug (VK4OE) and Rob (VK4ZDX) have kindly offered their test equipment for the day. The day will start about 9am and go for as long as needed.

Cheers,
Peter

G’Day Peter + all

A few pictures of the event, either here on this website, or better still in the W.I.A magazine ahead would be most appreciated.

If I can't be there (would like to be there) many others in the same boat, would be neat to see this event promulgated to all.

VK4GHz had that microwave activity session a few years back presented on video, and that was magic to watch...

Often see activities, meetings, or otherwise as advertised, but really see reports in afterwards.

Hi Steve
Did you see the pictorial from last year's BVHFG microwave tune up day?
It was a great turn out, and a lot of fun.

Since then, more transverters have been built and more VK4's will be active on more microwave bands. :D

The Brisbane VHF Group aims to create an active (and growing!) microwave community.
Anyone in S/E QLD with an interest in microwaves should attend, meet others, and see how easy it is to get your own microwave transverter systems going.
There is plenty of support here, and we are very keen to make sure you succeed.
It can be extremely satisfying building your own gear up, and making contacts with it.

Must have been another VK4GHZ?
Unless you are referring to the 2012 Summer Field Day video, from earlier this year?

I agree, and your wish will come true. :D

We will be producing a video (in Full HD) of this years event... a bit of a show and tell, if you like.
Everybody coming along this year is encouraged to bring along their gear, (even if you brought it last year), so we can capture it on video, and show others how cool this stuff is.

With apologies to Peter (3PF), magazines are soooo last century.

Hi all,

Preparations are complete, sausages have been bought, the fridge has been stocked, and the gas bottle has been filled. Oh and there will be test equipment there as well ;-).......

Looking forward to tomorrow, for those at home look for the live ATV broadcast on 426.5 MHz DVB-T (vk4rkc @ Oceanview).

Many tnx to all at the Redcliffe ARC for a great day.......
It was good to put faces to callsigns, and be impressed by the amount of uwave building activity. This type of event makes it easy for us without adequate (any) test gear to have some chance of getting our gear on the air.
Thanks also to Doug VK4OE and Rob VK4ZDX for their test gear and assistance.

Phil

I concur with your sentiments. It was great of the Redcliffe club to host the event at their rooms, and for the guys who made the effort to bring along their test gear : Much appreciated.

I have put a few of my photos on my web site at http://www.vk4adc.com/web/index.php/fie ... tuneup-day but Adam VK4GHZ took lots of photos and video so at least some of that will eventually appear on this forum post.

Again, many thanks.

Greetings again local fellows and other readers!

Well, twenty-seven folk present was great and many pieces of home made and elsewhere made microwave items were tested, adjusted and (some) pondered over as to how next to improve them!

Thanks Doug ('ADC) for your posting of a number of pics on your website. Yes, it was a great day playing microwave amateur radio all together with friends - and all of it was good clean fun as well!!

At a risk of duplication, here are three pictures (the Forum maximum) from my camera which were taken in between testing and tuning episodes:
Some of the test gear available on the day.
Some of the test gear available on the day.
VK4CDI's 3.4 GHz septum feed being checked for return loss
VK4CDI's 3.4 GHz septum feed being checked for return loss
VK4ADC testing a 10 GHz horn he had made
VK4ADC testing a 10 GHz horn he had made
Many thanks to all who came and to the Redcliffe and Districts Amateur Radio Club for inviting us to their great venue plus catering as well!

Yes, we'll be all looking forward to Adam's edited version of the video which he shot on the day!

Best 73,

--Doug Friend, VK4OE.

What an excellent turn out.
Always nice to put a face to a callsign and say g'day.

Knackered!
Another 3am bedtime.
18 hours of editing, with a 27 minute show now in the can.

This will be the full length version, available TBA.
I will have to get the chain saw out and do a cut down version for distribution via YouTube.

Thank you to the Redcliffe and Districts Radio Club for hosting the event.
A wonderful and very productive day.

A 26 minute video of the event has been produced, and broken into 2-parts for airing via YouTube.
This will be made available this Thursday - watch out for it, right here on the VK Logger Forum.
