Winter Field Day 2012

Post by VK4ADC »

Its getting close now - only just over a week away ( 23/6 & 24/6) and no one has yet said if (or where) they are going out for this event.

I guess many in the southern areas are in hibernation so not expecting too much activity from there at this time of the year - but what about you VK4's - where are you going ??

My FD QTH is not yet confirmed ( depends on the weather forecast) but I will be out in either QG61, QG62 or QG52 on all bands from 6m to 9cm, SSB and FM.

Who else is venturing forth ?

DON'T FORGET THAT YOU NEED TO UPDATE YOUR /P PROFILES IN VKLOGGER TOO.

I plan to set up at Kings Tablelands in the Blue Mountains (assuming the weather is do'able!) and beam some 10GHz back towards Sydney if anyone wants some points.

I will also try and get 2m, 70cm, and 23cm going but on a vertical only.

With so few comments posted about WFD plans for this weekend, I am starting to wonder whether it is going to be worthwhile making the effort to travel up into some high country in QG61.
It might be a case of winning the relevant section simply by making the minimum 10 contacts and entering the log.

How about it guys - is anyone else getting their gear together for this weekend ?

Feels pretty cold up here on the Sunny Coast Doug...might be an issue for others - :D

Next weekend I am out with Hockey coaching - but I have finally got all my kit for 6 2 N 70 in the scrub -

Trying for the Remembrance Day and will have 6 2 and 70 from the Blackall Ranges near Montville in August..

We (MWRS) are looking at being operational on 6m, 2m, 70cm and 23cm in QF56 on Saturday. Depends on weather and volunteers, but hopefully we can make it happen!

The Sunshine Coast Amateur Radio Club will be at their usual spot - Howells Knob QG63jf, operating all bands from 6m up to 23cm, with callsign VK4WIS.
Let's hope the weather is kinder this time!

Anyone in/around the Sydney basin likely to be on 10GHz? Just wondering whether it's worth taking along or not!

The weather is fine (though it may be a little windy) so I am off to QG61OX, 550m ASL, for the first 8 hours of the WFD today, 12PM to 8PM local.
In addition to the 50 MHz - 3400 MHz mentioned previously (first posting), I will have 5.7GHz on board but only at low power.

I certainly hope to work many of you on one or more bands 8) .

I will be checking periodically as home station for anyone looking for contacts.
Weather is looking good here also.
I'll only have 6m and 23cm. Can possibly hook up 70cm yagi temporarily toward Melb area.
Have 6m WSPR running currently looking for any E openings.

Manly Warringah Radio Society (VK2MB) activated QF56OH for around 4 hours on Saturday afternoon from the corner of a sports oval on top of a hill. We had contacts on 6m, 2m, 70cm, 23cm and a great day - even got a bit sunburnt (not bad for the 3rd shortest day of the year!). As soon as it got dark we packed up, as we weren't keen (crazy) enough to try and operate overnight.

Thanks to all who took the time and made the effort to participate in the field day.
Unfortunately I made no contacts at all on 2.4, 3.4 or 5.7 GHz and wimped out when the temperature dropped considerably - although nowhere near -10degrees. Roll on the Spring Field Day when I should also have the somewhat-more-popular 10GHz available.

I have updated my web site with a report on my doings on the Saturday plus some photos of the current setup.
