Thunderbolt GPSDO Distribution Amp

Post by VK4HDA »

I have recently rekindled my interests in radio and electronics from a hobby perspective by reading Adam's VK4GHZ, posts on the Thunderbolt GPSDO.
I have purchased one of these and I am currently in the process of building up the commander project on vero.
My question is, does anyone have a simple amplifier circuit that could be used as a distribution amp for the Thunderbolt GPSDO, mine reads 2.8v P/P output.
I have a few pieces of test equipment, spectrum analyser, frequency counter, signal generator and my IC706 which I want to clock of the Thunderbolt GPSDO.

Stuart, I used a Down East Microwave "10-4" kit,
It's a 4 way filtered amplifier/splitter.
USD$25 for the kit without enclosure + postage.
In case you missed the topic, it can be found here.

If you look at their PDF, you will see the schematic is included.

Depending on what's in your parts drawers, and the fact that the PCB is simplistic in design, you might be able to replicate it.
I just spent the $25 + postage to save a lot of mucking around.

It's amazing what lengths some will go to, to save a few lousy bucks.
The kit makes it very easy.

Stuart,

I fully endorse Adam's comments about the DEMI 10-4 kit - it does precisely what it says it should do and has the added benefit that it uses 5 pole 10MHz filtering on each output, in case your 10 Mhz reference is not pure sine wave.

You list quite a number of devices that require 10MHz reference signal - if you need more than 4 ports, then just buy two (or more) kits and daisy chain them.

Cheers

Has anyone used, say, an IRT VA-700 Analogue Video Distribution Amplifier as a DA for this application?

They have 10 outputs, should have a frequency response that is flat (+/- 0.1 dB) to 20 MHz and, with analogue video just about as good as dead, I'd have thought there'd be plenty available surplus? (I can't begin to imagine how many my employer must have recovered/ditched in the last 3 years...) Just add a suitable 10 MHz filter on the input?

Practel also had a similar Eurocard-style VDA, again with 10 outputs. For quality I'd probably lean towards the IRT, though...
