repeaters on google earth
I am wondering if anyone has a Google Earth file that shows the location of VK repeaters.
Thanks

Re: repeaters on google earth
I see Tim failed to get a response, here at least and I have a similar question so will place it here as well.
I am hoping to locate a list of VK repeaters and beacons that contain at least approximate co-ordinates so that I can load the data into a gps thereby showing the closest repeaters/ beacons. The list would hopefully contain also geographic area e.g. Mt Xxx or main coverage area, call sigh, frequencys and ctcss tones. Any ideas on how this could be achieved with a minium of searching each indivitual device on the ACMA database would be most appreciated.
Cheers

Re: repeaters on google earth
Surely this info can be obtained from the beacon and repeater database maintained on this site. When I had a look just now the majority of sites has the locator number for the beacon/repeater.

Edit: sorry, I see you are possibly a newcomer to the logger. At the bottom of the logger page (Yellow writing on a Black bar across the page) click on repeater or beacon to access the beacon and repeater database. Welcome to the logger. You will find it useful.

Re: repeaters on google earth
You can download all the VK1, VK2 and WICEN repeaters for Google Earth here: http://vkr.webhop.net/
I believe others will be added as the project progresses.
Hope that helps.

Re: repeaters on google earth
Thanks Phil and Rob for your replies.
I feel it would be a major undertaking though to cut and past all the relevant information from the way the data is presented on the logger unless of course I have missed something, it all appears to be there though but not in an easily accessible format?
What I would ideally like is the info in a comma separated variable (csv), tab separated or similar format that can be readily manipulated using a spread sheet or the like. I can get the repeater list from the wia web site but less the Lat, Long information I so dearly want.
I will hold out for a while in case someone comes up with an easier solution or will have to build myself up a data base area by area as I travel the highways and byways.
Thanks
Dave

Re: repeaters on google earth
Gents,
Its fairly straightforward to generate an Excel version of the beacons table. Drag your mouse cursor over the table, then Select All & copy to the clipboard . Next use Paste Special /Text to generate a Excel spreadsheet.
I'm sure there's a neat formula to convert from WWLOC to Lat/long. After that there are some free utilities like csv2kml.exe that will allow you to generate a kml file for use with GE.
Hope this is helpful

Re: repeaters on google earth
Hi , I think the RSD forum on here is the answer for you, it (RSD) can create a file that can be used in G-Earth to show all site registered users and beacons etc and heading based on your QTH

ZZZZZZzzzzzz WHOA!! Gee. I'm awake now. Someone actually looks at that? I better get cracking then.VK2GOM wrote:You can download all the VK1, VK2 and WICEN repeaters for Google Earth here: http://vkr.webhop.net/
In my travels, I found a list by itself doesn't really give a good representation of what's around you. When I turn up in a remote town, I wanted to just open up a map and visually see what was around, rather than trawl through the list. That's where Google Earth comes in handy.
It IS a big job plotting everything in Australia. That's why I stuck with NSW & ACT only although I would like to go further. If nothing else like it exists, I'll pick up the project again.
Ross.
Re: repeaters on google earth
What did I do Christmas Day? Picked up my dormant VKRepeaters project and trawled through the 2m repeaters. I'm going to start the 70cm side now and I'm considering including 6m, 10m and beacon instances as well.
I have revived the old link. What you need is Google Earth. Then browse to http://vkr.webhop.net
This will always load my current vkr.kmz file directly into your copy of Google Earth.
At present I only deal with NSW & ACT. It's too big a job to do the whole world.

Re: repeaters on google earth
Hi all,
You could try this link - some may already have seen/used it. It will show you an Australian Geographical Radio Frequency Map for all radio services shown on Google earth
http://spench.net/drupal/software/rfmap
Click on the map of Australia and away you go. Keep zooming in to the area of interest - it does take a while. A filter arrangement is available on the lower left of the page.

Re: repeaters on google earth
You can also export APRS data from pages like http://aprs.fi
You can select a single target, or all of the APRS stations.
Go to the right hand side of the screen and click on "Google Earth KML".
this will then automatically download the .KML file.
If Google Earth is already installed on your computer, it should automatically associate .KML files and instantly import the file when it is clicked on.

Re: repeaters on google earth
Happy New Year.
I've given VKRepeaters a thorough overhaul.
http://vkr.webhop.net
Additions include a few extra linked systems, D-Star and APCO P-25 repeaters.

Updated last night to indicate the three linked repeaters Mt Crawney, Mt Kaputar and Mt Rumbee.

Re: repeaters on google earth
VK repeater locations can also be plotted on the Mapping page on VK Logger.
You can filter by band, and by entering prefix only, by state as well.
http://www.vklogger.com/mapping.php
(You need to be signed into VK Logger)
Select Locate Repeaters
Not as mobile as a KMZ file/GE on a laptop, but another option for those online.

The VK4RGC repeater on 23cm reported by you Adam looks like it might be getting a bit damp...

It's a community database, and relies on user input.VK2GOM wrote:The VK4RGC repeater on 23cm reported by you Adam looks like it might be getting a bit damp...
It is always appreciated, if you know something to be in error, YOU correct it!
Rather than expecting "someone else" to do it.

Re: repeaters on google earth
No worries Adam. I have edited a couple of the inputs over the years, but only if I can verify them. I will never hear this one in a month of Sundays to verify
I find the most important field is if the repeater or beacon is actually active or not. Its location, give or take, isn't that important to me.
