SDR-IQ CODAR Reception

Post by VK6KDX »

Hi All

Has anyone had a play with CODAR(Coastal Ocean Dynamics Applications Radar).
There is a good introduction on http://www.rfspace.com.

It appears to be used widely and can be seen if you scan through the hf bands. eg 5200KHz
To me I think it looks a drawing of a spring on the sdr display.

I would be interested to contact anyone who has/or is going to try this mode which appears
to have some potential for mapping the ionosphere. It doesnt look it would in the same league
as backscatter radio but certainly easier to set up.

Cheers all

Hi Jack,

If you are interested in CODAR you may also be interested in the use of existing Chirp radar signals to determine propagation. In which case have a look at
an article by G3PLX - "Chirps: a New Way to Study HF Propagation", Peter Martinez, G3PLX, RadCom July, August 2000.

Also there will be an article on using Chirp as an aid to propagation measurement by Andrew, VK3OE, and me in the March 2012 edition of RadCom.
