HL-130U re-alignment

Post by VK2FANG »

Back in my UHF CB days, I bought a re-tuned HL-130U. Naughty boy.

Rather than put it back out there in the CB market, I'd like it tuned back to where it belongs with an eye to using it on 70cm once I have my Standard license.

Problem is I don't know anyone who can do the work. Can anyone please advise? Preferably in Sydney.

There couldn't be that much to it unless there's been some hacking about inside. Do you know any local amateurs that could help you or perhaps a local amateur club?

Hi Lou,

Maybe I'll bump into someone at the Wyong Field Day.

I peeked inside it a few years ago and I can remember it bearing scars from an explosion around one of the power transistors. Presumably it was patched up then sold to me! But it seems to work.

Apart from the stain, I couldn't really remember seeing anything out of the ordinary.

The main reason I am asking for assistance is because I was in the middle of a conversation with a tech on the Central Coast but for some unknown reason, he is not responding to my emails.

He was mainly concerned if it was an early or late version of the amp...

To which I replied...

> Hmmm. What appear to be the two main power transistors are marked as C3102.
> A third, smaller transistor is marked as C3022.

The last I heard from him was...

When I tried to get an address to drop the unit off, I never heard from him again. That was in 2008. I can't get boo out him.

Basically all that needs doing is the input and output variable capacitors need to be retuned for max output, very simple to do if you have a insulated tuning tool and a watt meter.
