Hi
Ive got my parents old computer which has a heap of photos on it and I need to try and get them out somehow onto a CD or USB flash drive.
Computer OS is WIN95 and has USB support, but I cant find any drivers that will run a flash disk mass storage device.
The is no ethernet port.
The CD rom is read only.
Any ideas?

Re: Getting photo files from WIN95
While W95 might have USB support, I'm not sure that included USB storage devices, only the connection of peripherals.
I've got a HP Omnibook 4150 laptop that has a USB port and I run W98SE on it and it certainly won't read a USB stick, but I read somethere that it didn't support storage devices but that may be a HP thing. I also have a Toshiba Tecra 8000 also running W98SE and that does support storage devices, but it might be a younger generation of PC that included support.
Last resorts I guess, but you might have to find a floppy DD or fit a CD burner .......

I guess if I have to I'll spend hours transferring to floppy then onto my computer
Re: Getting photo files from WIN95
Would u believe it actually had the ability to burn to CD and I never knew it, just found the program. So thats all sorted.
Next queston is - is this computer good for anything? any parts I could keep from it?

Re: Getting photo files from WIN95
Leigh, what CPU, what mobo, and how much RAM is in it?
I threw out two old PC boxes not long ago, one had W95 on it, and the other an old 386 - don't laugh - had DOS 6.0 on it.
Worth nothing to nobody, which is sad.
When updating PCs here (every 4-5 years), I relegate the PC just replaced to become the main shack computer.
Having been burnt in the past, I never install "ham grade" software on my main #1 machine, too many problem can arise over time.
If it doesn't have a network card, or you cannot easily obtain an old cheap ethernet card to suit, then chuck it!

Fill the case with concrete and use it as a mooring block.VK2KRR wrote:Would u believe it actually had the ability to burn to CD and I never knew it, just found the program. So thats all sorted.

Oh and Adam, don't knock DOS 6.xx. Last stable OS released (by any major vendor)...

Get something like this
http://dx.com/p/kimax-usi3-usb-3-0-ide- ... pQod7zMAKg
Then take the harddrive out of the computer. then plug the harddrive into this. plug it into your computer via USB and hey presto. It will show up as a External hard drive. Then you can just copy the files onto your computer like you would with a USB flash drive
Just my 2 Cents
