The Japanese release date and pricing has been announced recently by Icom Japan.
See http://translate.google.com/translate?h ... .com&twu=1 for a google translated version of the Japanese page.
The yen pricing equates to about US$3700.00 + options. (OUCH

Re: IC-9100 due date?
Icom have a full page colour advert for the IC-9100 in this month's AR (back cover) yet if you go to their web site 'to find out more' (as it says in the ad) there's no mention of it at all
They do, however, still advertise the supposedly discontinued IC-910H

I still think that the 7000 is one of the nicest radios I have used. It is just so logical! The 718 is pretty good to. But i prefer the layout of the 7000, plus the ability to go up to uhf, and the
Independent antennas is useful especially mobile installs.

Re: IC-9100 due date?
Its amazing what the IC718 does, works a treat and cheap, I use one at my weekend shed as a General RX and HF Rig, somethimes back to basics is the way to go ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Re: IC-9100 due date?
IC718 not much good for someone wanting top end VHF/UHF performance, and the ability to use satellite duplex frequencies, or be expanded for 23cm. Which the IC9100 does.
Sorry, but you can't compare a 718 with a 9100!
A bit like comparing darts with F1.

My 7000 runs so hot - even sitting here on receive - that I can't comfortably hold on to the heatsink. The fam comes on during TX but stops with dropping PTT.
Apart from the relatively small VFO knob it is quite nice to operate, and works alright. The TCXO makes the frequency accuracy and stability very good.
Some people enable the internal fan at all times via a modification in an attempt at cooling the guts.
I really can't imagine electrolytic capacitors lasting long.
(sorry for off-topic rant, I will cease and desist !)
Re: IC-9100 due date?
Didnt mind the TS2000 - but there are far better radios out there....................VK2TDN wrote:Rob,
get a Kenwood TS2000X a much better radio and $1000 less cost spend the saved money on a 23cm linear

Re: IC-9100 due date?
Based on my experiences.. and ive gone through like 50 radios.. my fav ones to date (and the only ones ive kept) are:
IC756 PRO2 (99% same as pro3 but $400-500 cheaper) and ive owned both, side by side = same. ($1900AUD nowdays)
IC7200 for field as its got the same RX as the PRO2 and its rugged. ($900AUD Now Days)
IC910h - needs no introduction, they rock. ($1200-1600AUD)
Now there is no such thing as an all in one, shack in a box radio that does HF VHF AND UHF as well as dedicated radios for the bands.
Please avoid the 897d... they have to be the worst piece of crap available.. not SO bad on UHF/VHF but HF they have a deaf and noisy receiver.
Not to mention the CPU problems (random reboots etc) - Ive tried to like the radio and tried 2 different ones.. both suck!
The FLEX radios are great, but they are not a plug in and go radio.. They are as reliable as the PC they are connected to.. And you can have so many issues and have no idea whats going wrong.. hardware, software, radio software, virtual serial ports, windows, drivers, you get the idea.

Not yet, but there soon will be! The subject of this thread no less, the IC-9100vk3laj wrote:...Now there is no such thing as an all in one, shack in a box radio that does HF VHF AND UHF as well as dedicated radios for the bands...

I am expecting some pretty good reviews on this one from the likes of the ARRL labs but time will of course tell.
I'm surprised at your FT897 disappointment... I have worked the world - mobile! - with my FT857 (same innards). Cracking little radio. I just wish I had all the lab equipment required to be able to properly review/test radio performance, but I have to just go from on-air use/performance which is pretty meaningless when the vagaries of HF band condx are taken into account.
Please tell me you tested your 897's with proper lab equipment before you said they were no good

Edit: PS - CPU burps on two separate radios suggests a problem with the cleanliness of your power supply or RF housekeeping of the installation?

Re: IC-9100 due date?
Like Bill, I'm curious if the IC-9100 will run hot like the IC-7000 and 706, or run cool like the IC-7200 and...... especially if it has wide range adjustable bandpass filter width like the IC-7200 on ALL MODES including wide FM which would make it an FM DXers dream. Not even the IC-9500 has that.
Re: IC-9100 due date?
Yeah but will it be 'legal'?

Re: IC-9100 due date?
...but how many out there buy every conceivable add-on with the manufacturers badge?
Only if you were setting up a station from scratch might you need a PSU, for example. And I'm sure it comes with some sort of fist mic to get on air. Perhaps DeathStar isn't you thing either so that's some more cash saved. And a USB PC connection can be had for $10 bucks from eBay China.
I still look forward to the proper ARRL reviews and see what its measured performance is like.

Re: Icom IC-9100
I have mine on order to replace a 847 that was hit during a recent storm, the price from ATRC is $4318.18 plus GST, expected delivery end of Jan early Feb..

Re: Icom IC-9100
Seems strange you were quoted that price from ATRC Frank, the price has not been released as yet, you may be paying far too much if that is the case, the radio will be available in Feb if Icom don't change their minds again, there has been no confirmed release date as yet, I for one will beleive it when I see it and I have it in store and on the counter, until then I beleive nothing I hear or that I am told, the radio should have been here in early January, but won't be.
