6m VK1 Scheduled QSO Anyone?

Post by VK1JA »

G'day All,

I've recently purchased an old battle ship of a rig, the IC-560. It seems to be receiving well and outputting the factory spec of 10w although after countless cq's on 50.200, 50.110, 52.100 and 53.500 I'm yet to actually make contact with someone :( It may be due to the low power, conditions, rig not working or simpily that there's no one in VK1 on 6m when I was calling...

I'd like to make contact with a station to see it this rig actually IS working ;) so if anyone is interested in scheduling a quick QSO/radio check on 6m in/around the VK1 area please let me know. We could aim for a time during the week to give people to read this and plan a little. Maybe put a call out on 50.2000 at a certain time etc.

Anyone interested?

Can you get into the VK1RGI repeater?

Doesn't anyone monitor it down there?

No luck on those repeater frequencies, if I remember right, the CRARC club are talking of getting a 6m repeater back up and running. But nothing is going at the moment :(

Dave - thanks, can we make it 11.30 local time? I'm doing an oil change on a friends car at 10.30. I'm down Tuggeranong way and should be getting out ok up to Woden/Civic area with my masive 10w :)

Edit - I'll monitor the 6m VKLogger around the same time if we have any problems with the contact.

Jason: OK.

Adam: I'm pretty sure that repeater has been off the air for at least the last 3 years, since before I've been on 6M in Canberra.

Regarding the reputed VK1RGI repeater on 6m, to my knowledge there is no repeater on 6m at Mt Ginini and never has been. It may be in the callbook but I don't know why.

Personally I'm glad there isn't one there. There are enough empty unused inactive silent dead repeaters on the other bands in the VK1 area without building another.

There were a number of vk1s active on 6m during the field day a week ago. Did you have the rig on that weekend?

I missed out of the field day, I got the 6m rig the week after the field day which was a bit of a shame. I was hoping that it'd come in the Friday before but no luck :(

I'm not sure if this info is out of date, but on the CRARC site under Services there is a mention of a future 6m repeater on Ginini on 53.925 planned - I thought us Eastern States people were restricted to the 50.000 to 50.300Mhz sub band?

The restrictions only apply to the 50-52MHz part of the band. Anyone can operate between 52MHz and 54MHz.
