Re: Where do you guys buy your radios from?
Hi All About 2 months ago I purchased an IC706 Mk2G from a VK3 who bought the radio from Strictly Ham last June. It came with the purchase docket and 5 year warranty. A bit over a week ago it lost power out in the 2m/70cm side. This sent me into panic as I had just installed it in a recently purchas...

Re: Cyclone Yasi
Hi Gary
Sorry to hear that the cyclone destroyed your yagi's, I guess the good news is your towers survived, hope your house and general property didn't suffer too much damage.
Look forward to hearing you back on 6m.

144MHz Digital record
Congratulations to Leigh VK2KRR & Derek VK6DZ who completed a JT65b contact over approx 2661KM which will probably be a new national record beating the recently established record by Jim VK3II and Derek VK6DZ(2495.7 km, 21 Jan 2011). I was in the middle and decoding both ends, 095400 5 -6 0.5 73...

Re: WSPR operations on 144 MHz
Further to Peter VK5PJ's comment on the logger "Leigh, the reports on the web site are from another user (stating the obvious) and it will depend on their radio's freq as to what they report your freq as". My understanding is as follows; The reported frequency is your dial frequency as ent...

Re: WSPR operations on 144 MHz
I've also experimented with WSPR on 2m this past week, in particular listening for Leigh VK2KRR's signal over a 750Km path. It has proved to be very succesful with several decodes down to -29db level over what i thought at the time was a band dead situation. The other thing of interest has been the ...

Re: Is there a use for WSPR on 50Mhz?
As a real-time early warning system (like monitoring for TV TXs and beacons), probably not. My knowledge of WSPR is limited, but from what I understand, it is something you review AFTER it happened. It's a bit like a lazy operator not putting the time and effort into actual operating, and coming ba...

Re: Curious 2m propagation
Hi Chas I agree with Phil, Greetings, Inland Troppo does happen although very rarely. On 23Jun08 we heard the 2M VK4RTT beacon from Adelaide for about three hours peaking to about S2. Like Phil, I and a couple of other heard the VK4RTT beacon, certainly wasn't very strong but it was there. Another g...

Re: Please stop this nonsense on 28.490!
The best solution to it all, is be old fashioned, like me, a grumpy old man, find a vacant spot, ask "is the frequency is in use", then just call CQ or CQDX, the majority of times you will get a reply when the band is open, plenty of room on 28MHz SSB to find a roost and just call, the go...

Thanks Leigh, hadn't seen this, checked my log and the contact was in it, not bad for his 2.5w.VK2KRR wrote:Hey Brian VK5BC, I wonder if you have seen this video of you at the radio of 9W2NIA on 28 MHz

And then there is the Quagi Hybrid!!! Has anyone made these first hand to comment? Quads vs Yagis vs Quagis .. :P I built & use a 8el quagi on 70cm at my holiday QTH (Corny Point). Did this for a few reasons:- being on the beachfront climate (wind) & salt conditions are bad, no room for tow...

Re: Icom IC-910H radio
G'day Rob There is a guy in Adelaide who repairs/tunes most radios. I had an old TS430 upgraded & tuned and was very happy with results. I know others who have had repairs done by him on a variety of radios, I think he has done IC910's. He has a good name in the business and I have not heard of ...

Hi Mark Unfortunately I'm in Hawaii :D and won't be back in time for your visit. I think Peter VK5PJ might be OS as well. In the Barossa Valley you'll have no trouble hitting the the Barossa Rpt on 146.825 from Gawler on. There is an IRLP rpt on 146.775 (VK5RAH). Hope you have great visit and enjoy ...

Hi Mark You will probably drive past my QTH on the way to the Barossa. My QTH is on the Barossa Vally Highway and the wineries start about 10kms from here, I can recommend several worth visiting, had lunch at one yesterday which was excellent. What is the date that you will be visiting? There is a l...

Hi Dave Well done on your contacts into VK6 yesterday. You had a good 5/9 signal into VK5 and it was great to work you. The 2 element yagi certainly improved you signal. I look forward to working you on the HF bands. Also thanks to the northern VK4's who assisted you to with equipment etc to enable ...

I Email Norm P29NB to see if he was going to be active on 6m this summer. Part of the reply I received below; Cathy and I left PNG the end of June, 2009 to take on another international assignment with SIL, so I am no longer in PNG. Sorry, I won't be able to give away PNG on 6. Jerry Walker was/is a...

Yes it can be downloaded. You can find all this info and more on the WIA website in the members area. The Bandplan has the following advice in the 6m section. Lou, the paper I referred to is not on the WIA site or I can't find it there, if you know an URL please post it. I obtained my copy from TAC...

Re: VK4RTL 6MTR BEACON - Proposed frequency move
HI Gary I support the move of all VK beacons to the 50.280-50.320MHz portion of the band. There is a WIA TAC - Guidelines for Unattended Transmitters - Beacons paper, the version I have is a hard copy which was updated 19/5/2007. In this paper there is a section on frequency allocation of 50MHz beac...

Re: Earth Steak
The stake is driven about one metre into the ground - clay then shale - so I ended up having to cut about a foot off the stake when I thought I had hit rock. The cable will then go up to the second storey where my office is located. I have found the best way to get earth stakes in is to use somethi...
