Propagation blackout predicted 21/12/07
For the incredulous, an E layer supported propagation blackout will occur from 0600z onwards Friday Dec 21 2007. Why? Experience has shown that because those of us gainfully detained at respective QRL’s during daylight hours might have chance to be by radio by late afternoon Friday the propagation...

Re: Buddipole antenna's
For those interested in the OzziPole, I've now been using one on-and-off for a few months when portable. RX's very well considering and considering it's size the TX perfromance is acceptable. Is very quick to set up (under 10 minutes) once initial measurements have been completed. http://lh3.google....

Re: Remote / Automatic station for record purposes
Owen This was a subject that over the last two cycles received a reasonable amount of attention within the 6m DX fraternity... and spurned a magazine article about 'Intelligent beacons' by Chip Angle (and forgive me if I'm wrong - Steve OT do you remember) utilising CW for TX/RX. The concept was to ...

Re: Gray Line paths
Scott Yes - LP late afternoon (our time) as the greyline approaches and SP in the morning as the grey line retreats. In the next couple of weeks I'll be installing a 2 element yagi (rotary type) for 40m ... will be interesting to see the difference and whether I can crack thru' the EU QRM in contest...

Adam - how right you are... our honeymoon, and I got 'permission' to take 10m & 6m radio gear .
I'm currently in VK3 until Sunday, but will provide a couple of recommendations when I get back.

Re: 2007 Spring Field Day
I have to admit that I won't be participating in this years Spring Field Day. Participation requires weighing up the options and it needs to be a concious decision based on the out comes as VHF Field Day is just 2 weeks post CQWW. To at least make my decision I draw the comparison to the Summer VHF ...

Welcome to 6m... now you realise that as you're a contestor and now planning activity on 6m there's no turning back - claiming sanity is no longer possibe

Re: Antenna for 10m
Brian's right - 10m is open most days.... just need to work at it or be there. JA to South East VK4 last night - but achieved by stations with better than average capabilities. I suggest, and am biased, that regardless you need 'gain' to succeed. Be it at the cycle minima when you need everything to...

Re: Buddipole antenna's
You can now get an Aussie version - the Ozzipole. Its a kit being distributed by the Coffs Harbour club (I may be wrong here) and it was advertisied on VKHAM (<$100)
It sure aint a gain antenna, but might get you on air quickly in a remote situation.

Kevin, Latitude plays an incredible part in this, what you can achieve at the latitude of QG48 (21 degrees south) is vastly different to that which can be achieved at QG62 (27 degrees south), and then for VK2 and VK3 it's even more pronounced. We cant draw comparisons between such significant variat...

Grant You'll certainly hear more.... but with 10w and a dipole you'll be working a little less than others (especially when caught up in the melee that will exist on 50110KHz between the inexperienced and experienced, the selfish and collaborative, the ignorant and the educated) - but you'll more th...

6m HF Liaison - 28.885MHz
Many of the users of this forum would be unaware that a 28.885MHz 6m liaison 'convention' existed internationally over the past couple of cycles. Although the realtime benefits of the VK Logger are a godsend, live liaison allows for more coordinated discussion, with less bandwidth used, particularly...
