Finally after stuffing around got wsjt-x rc5 time limited it has 9700 in drop down and have cat control.
OER and I are going to try FT8 FT4 and JT65 on 144.313 this morning.
I can already tell you rig has the classic banana tail.
Time will tell if it screws up the jt65 and jt9 decodes.

Someone on the 9700 facebook pages speaks of turning fan onto continuous running at low speed which has stabilised the drift somewhat 1-4 hz.
You bridge a 6 volt zener across the fan control transistor or some such trick.

Re your SD card saga... I've copied a basic image from the rig to the SD card, downloaded CS-9700 from Icom JA, installed on a PC, inserted the SD card into PC, loaded the basic image, added heaps of memories & settings, saved to SD card, inserted SD card back into rig, loaded new ...

Attempted firmware upgrade via sd card but is says NO FILE
Tried formatting it in radio
But this didn't seem to work as when I checked it in PC files still evident
so did full slow format and down loaded firmware file.
unzipped firmware onto SD card
made sure that DAT file was in the root directory ...

and
Internal On
or
Internal OFF
or ATT ON.
You can have Mast-head EXT ON
and
ATT ON
You can have mast-head OFF
and
INTERNAL ON
If masthead is on and system senses a short cct it is turned off by the radio

Also an RFG warning tells you iff its not TOP ...

The RF spike is seriously bad.
And my THP amps seriously dated.

Radio hearing Tassie and Gipps beacons all day hears well and interfaces with the mastheads just ...

I have one never assembled hope socket is same..
