Re: Choice of cables for serious antenna systems

Steve, Are there any friendly hams around that have contacts with riggers doing any system upgrades? There must be someone around replacing feeders or stripping down towers? We usually end up throwing out our old LDF4-50 even though it is still perfectly useable (no nicks or kinks) because no-one wa...

Re: Choice of cables for serious antenna systems

Hi Trent, I'm not going to argue with you if you are saying that many use far heavier grade of feeder than they really need- I see it often at land mobile bases where LDF5-50 is used at 80MHz on a 20m run. Sadly people don't understand loss, instead choosing to waste money where no benefit can be ga...

Re: ACMA 5 Year Spectrum Outloook - 6m & 70cm amateur bands

There is already an embargo in place over the 400MHz band for all but emergency services. In recent years I've seen an increased use of LMR400 but LDF is still overwhelmingly the preferred cable. I've recently inspected some installations th...

Re: Dead bands or hibernating hams?

Hi Wayne,

I put out quite a number of calls yesterday & today on the FM call frequencies & never heard a squeak. I was feeling veeeeery lonely!

Cheers,

Richard

Re: Amateur Licence fees - then and now

Hi John, My first post here as I have only just decided to rejoin the amateur fraternity after an 8 year hiatus. I am one of those middle aged men with lots of work & little time, I started out in radio as an early teen in days when radio was something remarkable to me, it prompted my choice of ...
