Re: HF isn't dead yet...

Great report Luke... just shared it with some of my "visionary" friends who favor emergency services in the bush to move to a LTE/Satellite platform instead of traditional radio. They need to hear more from people like you who have lived through it.

Cheers

Re: Your licence is due for renewal but

Refer them to a suitable retirement village? Ouch... I better be careful, I don't want to earn a "Shoot All Those Over 50" T shirt that some here wear... but really! Your argument involves a very long stretch in logic... ACMA want to reduce expenditure, where have they said they want to re...

Re: Exam / Licence Price & Young People ..

Don't think that the future in amateur radio is with the youth, in the USA 5 year old children get licences. Do you seriously think amateur radio gets any advantage from this With an interest in radio communications, electronics etc. sparked at an early age, that may well develop over time and resu...

Re: TYT/TYTERA MD-380 DMR Handheld

It is very sad reading how TYT are ripping off their dealers... if anyone wants to learn more about this I suggest you have a read of the MD-380 Facebook page... I now regret buying my MD-380 because without a manufacturer you can trust these radios are going to become paperweights very quickly. Ric...

Re: Australian DMR repeater network

So you can't read coverage plots either? Work out the percentage of the Australian population living in the coverage areas... the major blue chip companies using it are interested where the population is. That is why a TDMA based technology like DMR is ideal- spectrum is expensive and the capacity o...

Re: Australian DMR repeater network

You either misquote me or didn't understand... there is a massive DMR network called Orion that now covers much of the east coast and that has had many millions invested in it already (and the MARC is benefiting from that). Radios on the Orion network number in the many thousands and include some of...

Re: ACMA inspecting lots of F Calls

The remote places I have been with ACMA field officers... so they don't know where central Queensland is eh? Just go on believing that... Your answer was best Brandon- if you don't make a pest of yourself you will only receive a site audit if they are in your area doing something else. I'm sure as t...

Re: DSTAR Vs C4FM Vote

You just need to know where to look... and both DMR and P25 radios are available with built in GPS. No DMR repeaters? OK... Google MARC and in terms of large Australian DMR networks take a look at Orion http://www.orionet.com.au/ The hardware is out there... all of the major manufacturers are invest...

Re: Locals try and stop tower VK3

Is it normal to submit applications for pipe masts used to support the ends of wire antennas? I'm looking at lodging a BA for my 10m tilt-over mast to support a yagi or 2, but I also plan on putting up pipe masts on the block boundaries for my dipoles- didn't see any point in including them in a BA ...

So pilots who work in knots are unprofessional to you Peter? I'm sorry, love your work, but on this one I think you are nuts... if I can drive around the US using miles per hour, then cross into Canada and drive using kilometres per hours, why on earth is using imperial measurements and formulae &qu...

Re: locals try and stop tower VK3

Wayne Steve's comment is very relevant... and no the community does not have to accept amateurs need for towers any more than they fight against mosques or any other form of development. As a small minority in the community it is up to us to fit in with them, not the other way around, and education ...

Re: locals try and stop tower VK3

Wow, what an arrogant attitude to have towards the community. Understanding radio is not a prerequisite to live in the community, and there are many many more who don't understand radio than there are hams... so I suggest that if you want to treat them with such disrespect you will be the loser. Fra...
