Re: 2Metre SSB up and down the coast VK2
A bit confusing having a primary and secondary calling frequencies on two metres as per the band plan. So I will assume that 144.200 is for AE and M/S from early morning till 2300z and then 144.100 after. 6 metres has a defined band plan so there should be no confusion. 50.100 is not a calling frequ...

Re: Opek HVT-400. Mobile?
I've been using an opec 400 for 3 years and the only problem is the locking screws keep coming loose. After tuning use some loctite should fix. 80m is very narrow but I use a auto tuner so is quite useable, tuner takes care of the bands too. A spring base takes care of most of the whipping about. min...

Hi Steve,
The only other clue is the time of day.I see you worked vk0ix 14th Jan 1995 at 0800z.
I worked him a week later,31st Jan 1995 at 0930z,thats about the same time of the day.
Has Craigs beacon been heard anywhere as yet?
cheers

Hi Wayne, I recently mounted a 5 band vertical on the house roof, its tin and covers a large area. It picked up every bit of crud from inside the house even the crt tvs. I then put it on the tin roof of a large shed, now noise free and works well with good reports. I used rg213 as the shed is about 20...

Re: Do Tropo openings occur after sunrise on 50 MHz in VK?
Hi Mike,, I get tropo or some sort of inversion layer almost every morning to VK5 and western VK3 with sigs up to 59. Distance about 1000kms,beyond that there is no ops for a further 2000kms in that direction and wrong time zone for them. This is from a height of 1050 meters so is not a low level in...

Re: Looking for fibreglass pole / thick wall tube
Hi Adam
The power companies use a fibreglass pole for pulling fuses.
It is about 2 meters by 40mm with brass fittings so they can be screwed together.
I dont know where to buy but if you know someone in the industry there.
cheers and happy new year.

About the only difference between stauff and pirtec clamps is the colour, pirtec is blue, stauff is green.
Use a large flat washer to get them tighter without sqashing.
Pirtec usually sell both brands

Re: Element mounting ideas/methods
Hi John,
I use Pirtec hydraulic pipe fittings, they are available with various hole sizes to suit your element diameter.
Then use steel roofing screws to direct mount to a square boom, very easy and strong.
cheers

Hi Wayne Quite a few vk4's that I was in contact with on 6m were reporting the strange noise on sigs from vk5 and vk3 that sounded like aural growl/buzz. At the time there was no aurora and no au type growl here.Certainly strange,it must have been some sort of atmospheric disturbance to the north of...

Re: New Vehicle battery and Inox
Hi ??? I have tried inox and it didnt seem to do anything.A burst of high voltage (18v ) seems to do better. The main killer of auto batteries is heat,it gets very hot under the bonnet. When I lived in Alice Springs between 6 and 12 months was the life of a battery. Relocating out of engine compartme...
