Re: Where to buy RG213?
You pay for what you get , always ready for a deal I have found anything exposed to the elements or using rf needs to be a known cable , there is a reason a roll of coax can vary so much in cost when you examine it , I tend to buy Beldin and a few other brand names and have done for several decades...

Re: Remote Stations
Here's another grey area. What is the definition of continuous? Someone who operates a remote station at a particular location for a long period of time but not 24/7. Is that continuous? At the moment I operate only from my HF mobile while travelling, so that means my license reflects my house as th...

Re: TVI while the wind blows
Does anyone else in your vicinity have the same pixelation? Might not be your end but maybe the transmitter system has a wind induced problem. Distant tree's in line with signal moving in the wind another idea.. I live in a black spot area and can have my TV monitoring the signal level and watch my ...

Re: AIS and Marrine Traffic website

Re: AIS and Marrine Traffic website
Hi Allan, if no-one else in your area is sending to aprs.fi then your spots would show up there. I second what Leigh said and Shipplotter is good for displaying locally on your screen as well as sending info to other websites. I use to display on my screen and send the data to aprs.fi and marine tra...

I Totally different than the shambles on Saturday and Sunday. :D :D :D 73 Wayne VK4WDM Maybe they were not aware that the freq had been 'reserved' ? Yeah, how is one informed of such a thing? Until I read this I had no idea such traffic was going on...not that I listen much to HF anyhow. Why do the...

Re: Antenna steering
I was having some fun with a piece of hardware and my mind was wondering into other topics and thought experiments I have seen over the years. One of my favourites is the question, "Given a clock, how can you use it to measure the height of a building." It's not about accuracy, it's about...

Re: Antenna steering
I must admit to finding the clock one interesting so will give that a go. Assume the clock or watch has numbers around it. The numbers around it would be 30 degrees apart. A 30 degree angle with respect to the 9 - 3 line would be formed by running a line between 2 and 7 on the clock. Assuming the b...

Re: New Antenna Analyzer Sark-110
Hi all Sark 110 owners, I am in the market for a small portable device such as this, but the mcx connector for the primary connections, concerns me. Now that you guys have had a chance to use these, how have they stood up to the punishment, please? I like most everything else but the connector, and...

ACMA good service
Not often a government agency does something that surprises me but it happened today. I recently moved and in the back of my mind has been a thought about changing my address details with ACMA. Today I received my license renewal via email. That in itself surprised me as I did not know that was goin...

Re: Power requirements for a 25W mobile
Andrew, don't forget that eventually you will probably have other things that run on 13.8v (12v). Admittedly non that probably draw as much as the 718 or the 2510 but they add up so always add a bit extra for extra's and a bit extra on top of that as well. I would not want a power supply running any...

Re: Where are the VK6's ??
Hi All Current population of Albany is about 30,000. According to the the current Australian amateur numbers and population, Albany should have about 21 amateurs. This somewhat matched the 22 mentioned earlier. mmm statistics! I know of at least one call missed on the list so that makes 23 so the s...

Re: Where are the VK6's ??
One of the Albany amateurs who would probably in the past have had a qso on VHF is no longer active, now residing in a nursing home in Albany. I was visiting another ham who also lives in the home last month and during the conversation the other ham's name came up and I was told "oh he's here t...

Re: 2m beacon to bridge Indian Ocean
I just read that the writer of the VK6 notes in AR magazine is including an update to the VK6RIO project in the notes he is submitting this month. Probably no different to what you have read here but now knowing there is interest in the project perhaps more info can be forthcoming when it is availab...

Re: 2m beacon to bridge Indian Ocean
Bridging the VHF path between South Africa and Australia across the India Ocean, spanning more than 8500 km, is being attempted with a beacon in Perth on a frequency of 144.950 MHz. Established by the Northern Corridor Radio Group, the beacon - VK6RIO - uses Chirp modulation, which can be detected ...
