Re: Shipping costs re purchased goods from MFJ Enterprises
They charge according to the rate per pound shown in the pricing table on the website- no other charges on top. When you buy multiple items from different sources they will re-box them (to your instructions) in order to minimise the combined cost of the package- getting rid of unnecessary packaging ...

Re: Shipping costs re purchased goods from MFJ Enterprises
I've said it before here and I will recommend them again... My American Shipper. http://www.myamericanshipper.com/ I've imported loads of radio/electronic gear through them- and if you were buying MFJ gear you could get just as good a price from Ham Radio Outlet and they normally offer free post to ...

Maybe some of us "technical types" just hate being lectured at like delinquent retirement home residents. I'm sorry that Adam can't get past his technical superiority complex but even with my Surface Pro 3 I still like reading from paper... but I don't hold it against those who choose digi...

Re: VK5RSB 53.750 6m Repeater in Adelaide OFF AIR
What are you doing with your antennas Grant? We had a 100ft tower collapse at Griffith on Monday and our 10+ year old BA40 survived and swept perfect... sadly our dual polarised yagi wasn't so lucky when the tower landed on it... they just don't make antennas like they used to! Re: DSTAR Vs C4FM Vote
Glenn I'm starting to play with the DMR, mainly because Justin VK2CU has got in my ear, but the success of the "Orion" network has created a potential supply of cheap, fairly powerful DMR radios filtering down to AR. However like you my whole working hours involve P25 and my expectations o...

Re: VKCC Hijack of the Trans Tasman Contest
The only problem with allowing 400W, particularly on 80m is that the poor old F calls and QRP stations may as well go and watch a movie because the crud that the high power stations will generate will bring an end to their chances of being heard. After last year's 160m phone night when one station i...

Well no Trent, I'm not letting you off that lightly. You keep repeating the same BS: **** As a side note - all entrants were invited to a survey, the results of which were used to formulate the new contest format. Some peoples opinions were different to the majority and they have posted their disple...

Hi Hayden,
I forgot to ask... have you noticed any detuning due to temperature and moisture? I would have thought that this could be an issue in your mild climates.

Re: Repeaters, Duplexer, BP/BR cavity construction
Hasn't modern test equipment made tuning filters so much easier than when that article was written? I don't know if many of us build filters from scratch, I know I don't, but in this day and age with ever increasing site noise and the need to reduce antenna loads, understanding in how to correctly a...

Re: Lightning protection
The function of surge diverters in antenna systems is not always fully understood. In a proper installation the outer of the coax feeder should be earthed at the top and at the base of the mast and if a long run preferably periodically along the mast as well. The mast in turn should be connected to...

Re: WIA repeater and beacon policy
The Board has put up a range of opinions along with the new policy. I think it is very healthy for the hobby that the WIA has been mature enough to air views that don't align with their own.

John mentioned sponsorship... if you need some sponsorship Kevin give me a call. I'm happy to throw some dosh in because this gives me a reason for a weekend away in the bush that I would otherwise be spending in suburbia. Hopefully others will consider doing the same.

Re: Harry Angel 160m
Kevin, One thing I forgot to add is that we need to provide an incentive for the ZLs and VK5s and 6s... a simple point per contact doesn't give them much incentive because it is much easier for us in VK2,3 and 4 to rack up the numbers. The old concept of a block of 4 prefixes per hour plus bonus poi...

Re: Harry Angel 160m
Hi Kevin, The 80m Sprint is great but we do need a 160m contest to replace the now bastardised Trans Tasman. 6 hours with the best 5 hours counted is what I know me & Justin VK2CU would prefer... 100 minutes after a whole day setting up passes too quickly. Yes we know only Advanced calls have ac...

Re: VKCC Hijack of the Trans Tasman Contest
In this case I think that Trent has taken over a contest which isn't his style- he likes the mega international contests and is using this opportunity to remodel this contest in their image. I'm not going to bag Trent for having a go- he takes on jobs that others will not do- but he should respect t...

VKCC Hijack of the Trans Tasman Contest
I regret that I have to express my disappointment that the VKCC group have taken over the running of the Trans Tasman contest. They have just announced a major change to the rules for this contest that takes away the traditional spirit of the contest and in my view turned it into a contest aimed pur...

Funny how some say we should support the retailers, but not the few remaining professional techs who provide this service at a reasonable...
