Re: Help with M2 23CM35 yagi
Where in Australia can you get these 3/16" stainless "shaft retainers" they use? (And what's their real name?) A bit of looking on google and I found the clips are called internal tooth springrip retainers. http://www.wclco.com/images/spring_retainers1.gif Now where you get them from...

Re: Marine Tracking Bight path openings
Hi Leigh, I've spotted aircraft a number of times that weren't in the "right" place, including a 767 which "landed" 1km to the east of the Melbourne Airport runway! So sometimes the position reports are not what they at first seem (the skeptic, again  ). Yes the position r...

Re: Rig audio over Wifi Network?
Where I lived before my shack was way out back and so I used IP-Sound which is a small utility you load in both computers and it streams live audio from my shack to where I was. http://f6bcl.free.fr/reception/images/image002.jpg I never tried the microphone side of it, just monitoring the radio audi...

Just adding a little bit of info to what Leigh has been posting. At 2305 on 26/12/2012 VK5RAC-1 APRS digipeater was gated by VK6MF-5 in Manjimup.

Re: ALDI DVB-T Tuner
The dongle is a good deal at $25 currently in the local Aldi -- beats mailing it in from China. Lloyd, On the Plane Plotter Yahoo email group someone reported using a particular dongle successfully to receive ADS-B transmissions. If it receives those ok then presumably it would work at other freque...

Re: CW decoder by WD6CNF
I am a bit hesitant to reply to this thread anymore but the initial tryout I had with this software ( BEFORE UNINSTALLING , take note Glenn  ) I thought the same about the waterfall and decoding stopped while the waterfall was on. I was testing it with VK6RPH beacon and could not see it decode ...

Hey, whats with the plural I don't use a CW program to decode CW. I just installed it to see where Wayne was going wrong.VK4DU wrote:Hang your heads in SHAME....
Then again the only CW I decode are beacons but I do them with my head.

Re: CW decoder by WD6CNF
HI Wayne, no I don't use it but downloaded and installed to have a look. If you have ticked waterfall press the SCAN button on the top right hand side. The waterfall then started on my screen. Without pressing SCAN it stayed on spectrum display

It is still on East Intercourse Island as far as I know. The location was updated on the logger when it was re-established at the GPS co-ordinates that Michael provided at the time. As proven many times before, the logger is the most up to date reference for beacons and repeaters.

Re: Whats in a callsign?
I travel to the UK a lot for business. I don't operate much there, but when I do, I always use VK4DU portable Gx . Well perhaps before you travel there the next time, look up the correct way to identify as what you identify as, would appear to now be incorrect. Then again it might change again by t...

Re: Odd question re dealers
This is a bit of an odd question, but if I get an answer I'll reveal my reasons. Hypothetical scenario..... We are at a large ham radio field day. A major radio manufacturer has a display. We'll call them Yaecomwood. I approach Yaecomwood to purchase a radio from them. They produce said radio in it...

Re: Tips for antenna elements (Very controversial topic!)
My first thought was what about heat shrink tubing with the glue inside. Cut a bit longer and the ends can be pinched together to seal them, or you can buy heat shrink end caps.

Re: Icom 208h USB cable
This what the RS232 version looks like. If you have a usb to rs232 converter already then try this, otherwise it might give you some idea of what to try. Personally, the eBay suggestions already seem to me to be the way to go. I don't think you will find it is just a matter of taking the connections...

Re: AIS Tracking hardware
Good idea Adam. People interested in AIS might also care to join the Marine AIS DXers-Australia facebook group also run by Leigh. I suppose that could loosely be described as AIS hardware or software related. Search for it on facebook and join or send Leigh a message and I am sure he would add you. ...

Re: Magnifying loupes for SMD
I have soldered a couple of SMD items, including the minikits preamp using a magnifying lamp. Probably not the absolute best device to use but it worked ok. I also have an el cheapo 3x loupe but I would not use that for soldering.

Hi, However Shipplotter which was running in parallel, which had the unusual decode some days ago, when using the mic input, came up with nothing?... I can't say for sure either as I also don't use audio input to the PC for my processing either, mine arrives via ethernet, but quite often when using...

Re: AIS Marine Traffic Tracking (tropo indicator)
Hi, Has anyone had any success feeding the mic port on a laptop, rather an a line input? During recent days I think I can sometimes hear the data. I have just purchased a ext USB sound card which has a line input so will see if that helps. Kevin What software are you using for AIS? Ship Plotter, if...

Re: How hard can it be?
Back in the dark ages, Ye Olde Days, when we actually had radio inspectors, (around 1979), I made the mistake when someone locally called me, of saying 6NDF (which was my novice call then) with a RI standing in my shack along side of me. I got told then in quite clear terms that my callsign was VK6N...
