Re: 40 meter rotatable dipole questions

My main motivation for this antenna is to improve my Dx score on 40 meters. I have a "cloud warmer" dipole at about 10 meters above the ground for local contacts and have managed to work a few DX stations with it. The dipole at 10 meters will stay where it is. I will give a vertically pola...

Re: 40 meter rotatable dipole questions

Well I've taken Lou's advise and learned how to model antennas (at least basic ones) and have come to the conclusion that a rotatable dipole at 13 -15 meters is not going to give me the sort of performance I was looking for. So now I am looking at a delta loop fed as a vertical and I will just have ...

Re: EMDRC Clubrooms Friday 15th July - Digital ATV Super nig

After listening to a podcast where Art W8RMC was interviewed ( one of the main ATV guys in the US) I decided I should get my ATV RX setup working. I have had all the necessary bits for a while , I just hadn't had the motivation to hook it all up. I also heard at Gippstech that there was going to be ...

Re: Echolink and IRLP

IRLP is still working. I am not a frequent user, but a few months ago a friend was travelling to Darwin so I made sure the IRLP link to Darwin was still active. I didnt manage to make contact with him while he was there as I went overseas a few days after he arrived in Darwin. So yes it still works ...

Re: 40 meter rotatable dipole questions

Thanks David for your input. At this stage I want to keep the 3 el tribander up on the tower so the delta loop wont suit my setup at this time, it may in the future. I intend to put the short rotatable dipole at about 15 or 16 meters above the ground, not sure if that will make a difference to the p...

Re: 40 meter rotatable dipole questions

OK the family commitments are now back to normal (what ever normal is around here) So on with the rotary dipole project. I think my first attempt will be a loaded dipole arrangement using 2 x 7M squid poles. Now the weather will be the limiting factor as to when I can get the tower down to try it ou...

By the way if there is anyone looking to do a similar thing to what I am planning here are a few links you may find useful This is my preffered option at the moment http://n6jv.com/40meterdipole.html Other useful links http://hamantennas.blogspot.com.au/2011/02/simple-antenna-for-40-meters.html http...

Re: 40 meter rotatable dipole questions

Thanks Gents for all your replies, I am still going down the rotary dipole track rather than any fixed wire antenna simply because I want to be able to orient the antenna in the direction of the DX. For various reasons this is not possible at my place with wire antennas without putting up horizontal...

Re: 40 meter rotatable dipole questions

I agree Lou, I should learn to use an antenna modeling package and I probably will in the future. My main reason for this post was to see if anyone had experience with these types of antennas before I invest time and effort into the project. Wayne, I have also thought about a delta loop for 40, but ...

40 meter rotatable dipole questions

Hi all, as the sun spots slowly disappear the higher HF frequencies are becoming more challenging. Although I have been licenced a long time (1979) I have not spent much time on 40 meters. I have various dipole type antennas on 40, but Im looking for something that should be better for DX on 40. The...

Re: Home-brew headset adapter for FT-857D

I have made a couple of adaptor plugs for my FT817ND so I could use PC headsets while on SOTA activations. I dont have component values at hand but it doesnt seem to be too critical. I have played with the capacitance value to taylor the audio response a bit. I will have a dig in my files and see if...

Thanks for the link Andrew. I have a kit yet to be started (apart from machining the heatsink flat) The info from caarc looks like just the thing to get me started on the build.

I'm keen to see your review Peter. I have already thought of a few items to sell off to fund the purchase of one of these rigs, just waiting to see some more reviews to convince me further.

Re: 3.4 GHz QSO Party

Well done all involved with this project. I visited Rob VK3MQ on Mt Dandenong while he was operating. I have my first contact on 3.4 ghz with Lou Vk3ALB soon after the start of the action. It was like dx on 20 metres there for a while, there were stations all over the band calling, having QSOs etc. ...

Or If you are down this way anytime you can borrow mine. I bought it thinking I would use it from time to time and so far I have used it to make the 6m beam and 1 other job in 7 years.
