Re: My Pi Journey, the next generation
Hello, for a long time now on my PI-4 I have had problems with spots being sent to the WSPRnet.org web site from any copy of WSJT-X on my PI. The activity page and the spots pages on wsprnet.org both showed I did not exist or had not received any data. arrghhh. Now the popular opinion is that the Ra...

The unsung hero of the toolbox
Hello, for a very long time I had thought the STEP DRILL was a gimmick concocted by the sales people of the world.. you know the line "Buy one and get many different sizes" and "comes with free steak knives" so I never took them seriously. When a friend was putting up a tower, he...

Re: IC-7610 with Dual watch for digital modes
Not happy with two frequencies I hear you say, neither was I.. the 7610 has the ability to send a data stream of I-Q data via the USB 3 port and this can be read by third party SDR software and then you can tune the SDR to a third frequency and have that feed to a third copy of WSJT-X. So imagine my...

IC-7610 with Dual watch for digital modes
Hi, the recent band openings on 50 MHz to Europe has raised the need to listen on more than one freq at the same time for digital signals. My trusty IC-7600 could not help me so I have had to promote the IC7610 I have had hiding under a towel for 12 months to primary operations on 50 MHz.. Now both ...

Re: 2m WSPR Station
Hi Nigel, as far as RX goes, had GQRX (SDR software) running on my PI-4 overnight and had three good WSPR spots from vk3ot in WSJT-X running on the same PI-4, all reported very similar base band decode frequencies so stability looks good. The reported decode frequency was slightly off but I have not...

Re: 2m WSPR Station
Hi Nigel, happy to help you with the PI side of things, have two of them running here, one does WSPR on 50.293 with an IC-7100 and the other is a hack toy. The 7100 is not a particularly good choice for WSPR TX as even on 50 MHz I clock up drift values of 4 or more by the receiving stations. The pro...

Re: My Pi Journey, the next generation
Okay time for an SDR on the PI-4 RTL-SDR RTL2382U 0.5 PPM TCXO Software Defined Radio Receiver Dongle (on ebay for $28) has SMA antenna connector and reasonably good stability with the TXCO. I have used this for monitoring FT8 on 50.313 for weeks at a time, with no need to fiddle the frequency to de...

Re: TS-2000X no tx or rx after full reset
Hi Andy, first thing I would do if it was mine, is another FULL reset but do not load any settings from before, check radios operation in this 'naked' state, there might have been a corruption in the saved setting and it may have tried to set a weird IF offset to the radio or corrupt and RF path to ...

Re: My Pi Journey, the next generation
my next challenge has been that the screen resolution via VNC on remote connections is very low. I had not experienced this on my earlier PI's so was a little frustrated that the new PI 4 popped up this problem but it would seem it is not all that un common https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtop...

Wow, how things change between linux version, went to use the graphical file manager today and it just exits after opening (display is there for less than a second). Grrr I quite like the inbuilt file manager, so Mr Google reveals I am not alone. https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=25...

Re: My Pi Journey, the next generation
Oh dear, I knew there was a reason why I hate FANS, one of the pair of micro small fans on the PI-4 cooler I linked in the original posting has become noisy and just 4 hours of service, back to passive cooling for now.

Re: My Pi Journey, the next generation
Okay, 1st quirk, it would seem the release of the Raspbian O/S on my SD card is a little old and when I try to upgrade I get this lovely message pi@raspberrypi:~ $ sudo apt-get update Get:1 http://raspbian.raspberrypi.org/raspbian buster InRelease [15.0 kB] Hit:2 http://archive.raspberrypi.org/debia...

My Pi Journey, the next generation
Hi, well it is time for a new PI here as I always felt the PI 3B was a little slow doing decodes on the FT8 mode of WSJT-X and now with FT4 around, I felt I needed more horsepower to get the job done. Went ahead with the purchase of a Raspberry PI 4 from the same supplier as before (Little Bird Comp...

WSJT-X configurations
Hi, I am not sure if many people are aware or use these but they are one of the gems of WSJT-X. Why so, well on the Configurations menu you can create a seemingly endless list of different configurations to match your operating habits. My shack PC has a list that goes like this: WSJT-X-Config-1.jpg ...

Re: FT8 FT4 Contest Mode
Hello Trent, there is a dedicated CONTEST mode within WSJT-X for similar USA based contests, just wondering if you have explored those, the only trouble you will have is getting other stations to change to contest mode to exchange the correct responses. This has been a hot topic in past months on th...

Re: VK5RBV to come back at Full steam
Yes SKI, P.A is on in class C all the time, I kept the Audio/ control board in there but cut the traces going to the Audio Amp and the other regulator so they can not mysteriously cause a fault. Also removed the change over relay in the P.A and put a wire link in its place. By doing this I keep the ...
