Re: Problem with mapping tool
Hello Adam, as per most of facebook's content, your post was lost in the litany of adverts and 'fake news' so forgive me for being surprised to see you mention it is 'end of life'. Is any of the existing code going to be available (on license?) to see if can be moved to vklogger V3 or is your intent...

Re: My Pi Journey
Hi Mark (4EMS), glad to hear you have had success, I must admit I have been suprised by the number of Op's giving a PI a go. If not for the rising cost of mains power I would probably still be on my Windows PC  and missing out on the world of PI. If others have suggestions on things to try ...

Re: My Pi Journey
Add a file manager with a difference, some that are getting on in years with IT exposure may remember a DOS based file manager called 'Nortons Commander' there was also 'Xtree' and 'Xtree Gold' that brought a GUI look to file management back in the DOS days. On Linux there is 'Midnight Commander' or...

Re: My Pi Journey
Hi Ron and others,
in WSJT-X there is an option to change the fonts from the normal 12 dot size down to a smaller value. I have on mine just chosen a font size of 8 for both the main screen and decoded text. You find this gets you bye until you find a bigger monitor.

Re: My Pi Journey
Hi Ron, firstly what sort of monitor is connected to the PI and is it connected via a HDMI port on the monitor or via an adapter to a DVI connector? If I go to the display setting menu on the PI (Raspberry Icon) then, 'Preferences' then 'Display Settings', it shows mine as being '1824x984' pixels. T...

Re: My Pi Journey
so is this all black magic and nothing really is working... here is 40 metres on my IC-7100 from the PI. Oh yes it has only a 50 MHz omni as an antenna when this shot was taken. http://www.users.on.net/~pedroj/pi/PI-wsjtx-FT8.JPG By the way, the curve of the screen edges is a dead give away that it'...

Re: My Pi Journey
okay, so now on to my IC-7100 which has inbuilt USB. I have removed all the other 'devices' so I have effectively a clean slate USB wise. Here is how it looked before I unplugged my devices for the IC-910 connection, with my Soundblaster-USB and serial port for CAT and PTT plugged in. pi@vk5pj-pi:/e...

Re: My Pi Journey
Okay, so is your PI's clock in sync? A PI does not have an onboard realtime clock so at each boot it MUST sync its system time from an online source. This web site has some discussion and helpful hints on getting a PI to have accurate time, while some of the chatter on the page is not helpful, I wil...

Re: My Pi Journey
now I guess I should provide full disclosure.. I work with Linux most days as part of my IT job BUT only from the Linux CMD line (shell via SSH) on our enterprise system so all this GUI stuff we are doing with the PI is all new to me.. so I am learning as I go along too.

Re: My Pi Journey
Do you want to connect to a Windows file share on a PC in the shack or house? https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/40974/access-network-samba-share-from-pi-client In my case I created a folder on the shack PC called 'Shared' and from Windows Explorer you right click on the folder and sele...

Re: My Pi Journey
How to get a 'screen shot' in linux and in particular on your PI... In the main menu, go to 'preferences' then 'add remove software' In the new window that opens, type 'screenshot' into the search and hit enter. In the list returned in the right section, look through the list to find 'screenshot app...

Re: My Pi Journey
Audio in WSJT-X now firstly you need to know there is NO Microphone input on a Raspberry PI base board, it has a headphones port so you can play audio but no input. This means you either need an external USB sound card or rig with direct Audio. For the audio side I use Creative Sound blaster USB's a...

Re: My Pi Journey
Now assuming you have already installed WSJT-X from the list of software (previous posts) then inside WSJT-X the setup looks the same but the options you select may seem a bit foriegn to you. Firstly lets look at CAT and PTT control . . http://www.users.on.net/~pedroj/shack/PI-wsjtx-serial.JPG Okay,...

Re: My Pi Journey
Hi, for those who want to set a static IP address on their PI, you can find some good instructions here: http://www.circuitbasics.com/how-to-set-up-a-static-ip-on-the-raspberry-pi/ that take you through the process of editing some files.. Now if you are pluging in a USB device, how do you know what ...

Re: My Pi Journey
now for GQRX SDR software you need to download the archive (TAR) http://gqrx.dk/download/gqrx-sdr-for-the-raspberry-pi I put mine is /usr/local/share I think, then you can run it from the CMD window or create s desktop link (another new experience for me on Linux) Works great with a RTL dongle and q...

Re: My Pi Journey
Hey Colin (MIL), well yes the install instructions for WSJT-X are a bit flawed as they tell you in many places to add the repository key for the KI7MT site but that process has not ever worked for me... Believe it or not WSJTX is part of the formal software repository for Linux, from the menu in the...

Hello Colin,
it would seem JTalert is limited to a windows build so it that's needed for you then probably locked to Windows... I must admit the transition to PI was easy but the search for utilities that we take for granted in the Windows world make it frustrating some days..

My Pi Journey
Hi, a recent power bill that was much bigger than expected has triggered me to look at alternatives to running a traditional Windows PC in the shack. I have an older Raspberry PI that I bought for a small task at work (captive web portal and DHCP server) in 2015. A year later we shelved the PI as a ...
