Re: 2015 Winter VHF/UHF Field Day

VK3YFL will not be operating portable for this Winter FD as I'm unwell and I think a day out in the field is probably not what the doctor would prescribe. I may hand out a few numbers from home, but it certainly seems the change of start time has caused some confusion. Good luck to all that venture ...

Re: Summer field day 2015 - 10/11 January 2015!

A prior commitment meant I couldn't do my usual Saturday afternoon stint portable and I thought about trying the last few hours of the Field Day on Sunday morning for a change. And what a success I found that to be - probably due to taking a lightweight station (= less set up/pack up time) and weath...

Re: Summer field day 2015 - 10/11 January 2015!

A prior commitment means I can't be in the field for my usual stint on Saturday, however I may be on from home during the early hours of the contest and subject to weather, may venture into the field for the last few hours of the contest on Sunday morning with 10GHz contacts my priority - location T...

Re: 2014 Spring VHF/UHF Field Day : 22/23 Nov

While regular Field Day participants (hopefully) understand the rules, it is a shortcoming that the Spring rules haven't been published as per tradition for a couple of reasons. I always take a hard copy of the rules with me on Field Days in case I'm challenged about what I'm doing and so can refer ...

Re: 2014 Spring VHF/UHF Field Day : 22/23 Nov

I plan to be out for portable operation on Saturday afternoon only, however I'm uncertain whether to go to my 'usual' spot at Kinglake NP or try Mt Donna Buang for a change. The later has some logistical advantage, but with the car park surrounded by trees it may not be a conducive for contacts, par...

Re: 2014 Winter Field Day

I rarely post on Forums whether Amateur Radio or other, but I've got to say stop bagging the same people go to the same spots time after time because at least we are participating. I make no excuse for being boring. Indeed I've been going to the same spot for many years, but if you have taken notice...

Re: 2014 Winter Field Day

Expecting wet and windy weather I decided to take my newly acquired (secondhand) caravan to my usual field day location of Kinglake National Park. It certainly reduced setup and knockdown time and provided a few comforts not accorded by my usual setup. I chose to ignore Gavin VK3HY's comment regardi...

Re: 2014 Summer Field Day

Despite being enveloped in fog at my portable location at Kinglake NP, which meant it was impossible to use the usual line of site to Eureka tower in the Melbourne CBD to calibrate the 10GHz dish, I had plenty of contacts during my 6 hour operation. Perfect weather meant I didn't need to erect the w...

Re: 2014 Summer Field Day

Hi All,

I plan to operate from my traditional field day location in Kinglake National Park (QF22PL) with 50, 144, 432, 1296 & 10368MHz as detailled in VK3YFL/P profle for the first 6 hours or so.

Looks like ideal weather and so hopefully some good propagation.

Re: 2013 Spring Field Day - 23/24 November

I'll take the blame for Gavin getting wet. It's become a standing joke that each time we work on 10GHz it rains on him! My operating day was shorter than planned also. I tried to rough it out but after some reasonable weather to begin with, the light occasional showers turned into constant rain afte...

Re: VK3 Microwave Test and Tune Day - Sunday November 10th

Unfortunately I had to leave early, particularly before Rex's EME demo, but thanks Dave (VK3HZ) and the EMDRC for making the day possible.

Re: VK3/VK5 Microwave Activity Day

Perfect weather for it and lot's of fun. Here's my (very amateur) attempt at a video record of my station and a couple of contacts: http://youtu.be/fU2VUbl0QUE fU2VUbl0QUE For those interested, the video and stills used here were taken on a simple point and shoot Nikon and the resulting video, inclu...

Re: VK3/VK5 Microwave Activity Day

Decision made! I was thinking of visiting my old stamping ground of Ballarat and joining Ian VK3AXH at Mt Buninyong, but that's now not possible and so for simplicity I'm just going to to my usual spot at Kinglake NP (37.52142S, 145.31876E). I'll have just 10GHz for microwave and 2m & 40m into a...

Re: VK3/VK5 Microwave Activity Day

With so many going into the field it's hard to pass up an opportunity to exercise the 10GHz gear, but I just don't seem organised and I'd really like to go somewhere other than my normal Kinglake location. We'll see what Saturday brings and so don't surprised if you hear me pop up somewhere. Bit har...

Re: Summer VHF Field Day 2013 - 12/13 Jan

VK3BQ - Andrew?, Yes the yagis on the pole are hand steered. It's good being able to quickly turn the antennas to find where a weak signal may be coming from before it disappears during the short overs which are typical in a contest (and avoids having to carry more gear by way of a rotator and suppl...

Re: Summer VHF Field Day 2013 - 12/13 Jan

Chas, I agree that the problematic weather had an effect; indeed given Friday's conditions I was concerned about returning to Kinglake National Park, but the weather turned out to be almost ideal. It was another enjoyable day out "playing radio" and explaining what a Field Day was to a num...

I'll be operating from Kinglake NP (QF22PL) on Saturday afternoon only with 6m - 23cm and 10GHz. Weather forecast isn't looking so good, but looking forward to another day in the field.

Re: New Zealand DX 12/29/1012

Like Kevin ZL1UJG, yesterday's opening provided me with my first contact "across the ditch" on 2m after being licenced for more than 40 year. I'd heard ZL3TY four years ago, but my take-off towards ZL is over Mt Dandenong and surely screens signals with a low angle of arrival. But yesterda...

VK3YFL/P will be at Kinglake National Park (QF22PL) with 6m - 23cm plus 10GHz - Lou I've a new tripod mount for the 10GHz dish and so hopefully it will help us make it this time!
