Good activity locally from local home stations, but not many portables out. Apart from VK7JG no stations over 150km were heard.

Re: 2016 Winter VHF/UHF Field Day
Am planning to be out this afternoon on 2m SSB/CW/FM only from a good location near Frankston. The plot from the site shows a good 270 degree coverage to most places from Geelong. Gippsland, traditionally a weak area for me but essential for grid squares, should be workable. Paratea Reserve VHF cove...

Maybe one needs ESP to work it out? However if the seller is an amateur the ACMA database may give a clue - in VK2?VK3ALB wrote:Where is there?

Re: 40 meter rotatable dipole questions
VK3HJ, How did the Bobtail Curtain perform? I have always been intrigued by that type of antenna. Alas I don't have the room. I recently made one for 432 MHz and it was clearly better than a dipole when receiving a beacon. A demonstration is below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgJVuEq5Its Anothe...

Re: Video: Analogue panel meter basics
Apart from checking FSD current - 30uA for this meter, what other tests could be run? This meter DOES read full scale with 30uA Maybe the extent of damping in the meter movement? Eg feed it with a varying source (eg rectified audio) and see whether the needle bangs around a lot or whether there is ...

W2AEW is a gifted teacher who produces great videos. His 50 000 strong subscriber base illustrates the esteem in which they are held. As another great electronics teacher, Colin Mitchell of Talking Electronics remarked in his interview with Dave Jones, people have different approaches to learning. H...

Thanks Geoff - glad you enjoyed it. These videos demonstrate reception of Geoff's rig 2400km away in a noisy suburban location (others in quieter areas got better signals - as strong as 5/7 elsewhere in VK3). poJNoBrDko0 1WZUS-VbZiw Another article about this rig is in this month's AR magazine. LED lighting in public areas can play havoc with portable operating. Made worse if the LEDs are confined in a metal railing which (I suspect) operates as an antenna.

Melbourne QRP by the Bay - 6 February 2016
(an event for those who love homebrew portable radio equipment, outdoors transmitting and QRP operating) Following previous events, which keep getting better and better, we're doing it again. A sixth 'QRP by the Bay' gathering will be held on Saturday February 6, 2016 at Chelsea beach, 30km south of...

Having said that, the two supermarket conglomerates have gone well beyond their 'knitting'. Eg petrol stations, liquor, hotels and, at least for Woolies, ...
