Re: VK2ROT 2m upgrade

Can whack it with my hand held on low power inside the house from Erskineville - I could never do that before (had to switch the h/h to 5 watts in order to hit it), just tuned the FTM350/AR to the frequency. Will listen for a while.

Re: What purpose does the extended tx serve

Well been a while since I originated this post, but in an effort to make my station fully legit again (having had a visit from the RI's concerning a no longer in existance ic208 and a rather powerful transmitter that could do 11m), I've made a few changes. The handheld that they were going to confis...

Re: What purpose does the extended tx serve

No, then it becomes a modified set. However, in this scenario, an F call could give the FT101E to an S or A call, who would remove the 11mhz crystal, and then give the set back to the F call. In this case the set wouldn't really be modified; just made legal. I spoke with the acma yesterday on the ph...

Re: What purpose does the extended tx serve

So it either needs to be left stock (in the case of the ic208) or modded with a special method (like computer clone cable) to keep it only on the amateur bands.

If thats correct I should be fine.

Re: What purpose does the extended tx serve

No worries - I'll post the radio off today - just wanted to clear it all up. I was not being "smart" if anyone thought that I was. As a matter of fact I have purchased a chinese handheld, baofeng uv-5r, but only after researching it, and it can be TX locked to the ham bands only. *Through ...

Re: What purpose does the extended tx serve

So should I get the radio fixed, or tell them to rack off (in a polite manner). Like I've stated before, I'm a AR, not a CB'er, and have no intention of txing on any frequency available, except those in my licence class; excepting a test into a dummy load to see if a new rig can tx outside its alloc...

Re: What purpose does the extended tx serve

Well no sooner had we mentioned the RI's, then I got inspected. Not needing to transmit out of band, the warning was "posession of gear that can TX on LMR frequencies". I showed willingness to comply by drilling a hole in the walkie talkie, and tried to un mod the 208h. I cannot, but will ...

Re: What purpose does the extended tx serve

If you find an area with a lot of bunnies, a 4x4 mounted minigun would be even more fun. See how many you can hit before they all scamper away ;) I was in Canada 2 years ago and took my icom 7000 with me. I have to say theres a LOT of hams in Canada compared to Australia. My hosts were amazed with h...

Re: What purpose does the extended tx serve

Hunting wabbits with a glock could actually be a tonne of fun! Thanks for the replies guys. BTW trash I tried flipping the polarizing screen on my 208h, but couldn't seem to peel it off the LCD. Due to the delicate nature of the screen, I was being quite careful with it, and as such just put it back...

What purpose does the extended tx serve

On most ham radios? Apart from pirates putting them on 11m, to get the additional watts, what other use is unlocking a radio to freeband TX? Why do manufacturers include it, if all it does is allow chook dawg and his mates to put a ham radio online at 100W for 11m? As I have a icom 208h which I need...

Might get some - they make great hotel room antenna's. Nice and compact when packed away, and simply tunable by adjusting the ends of the springs.

Re: Icom 7400 Problem with Six Metres (SOLVED)

Glad the band select diode suggestion worked. These big radios are a bugger to post - and its quite expensive if you want any kind of insurance. Pleased you got your 6m back :) Of course this problem should really only occur on a radio thats been opened up. A new one (or an un modified one) should n...

Re: Icom 7400 Problem with Six Metres

I wonder if the radio has gotten warm enough inside near the band selection resistors/diodes (the same ones pirates use to put radios on 11m), and one of the resistors has fallen off, disabling 6m?

Re: Azden PCS2800 repairer?

Could be a dried up capacitor or a cold solder joint that goes "good" as the radio warms up. As its in the PLL area I'd be checking (like you stated) there first.

Re: LCD SWR/Power Meter

I wasnt sure if I should have posted a new thread or added to this one, but since I too have ordered the fox delta kit, I figured I'd post here. I ordered the SWM3 usb connecatable kit which is similar to the swm2 which has a serial port instead of usb. I also ordered the dual range swr bridge to go...

Re: Out of the mouths of Old Timers

Mine is mainly filled with repeaters for 2m, and one simplex (FT 897) - the 10m 28.490 and 28.390 frequency, 14.200, 3.610 and 2 11m channels for listening in on without firing up the super cheetah mkII (CB) and switching the antenna over. The other frequency is a 468mhz one which still transmits an...

Re: Fun schematic

To further reduce power, replace the ballast light globe with a space heater (2 bar preferable, quartz seems to inject parasitic oscillations), or an ion laser tubes filiment. Then if you like, you can ionize that tube with the 500v and have a pretty laser lightshow each time you TX (attach a mirror...
