Re: TEFLON Coated wire
G'day Kevin, Probably have to make your own Teflon coated wire. Worked in the defense industry and you buy Teflon tubing and slide over your wire. I made combiner torids for 1.5Kw TX. Wound Kapton tape over cores first then the insulated wire. Gee you can be lucky. Ebay has plenty of Teflon tubing t...

Re: Video: Analogue panel meter basics
G'day All, Interesting thread. There is still a place for analog meters in the repair industry to replace faulty meters. Recently my Swan VHF-150 amplifier plate current meter had a problem. The meter is made by Emico in the USA. It turns out that it is a moving magnet meter. It does not have hair s...

Re: FT7-57GX Tx Audio Problem
G'day Mal, As the symptoms are only on 80/40 this suggest you may have a problem with the LPF section for 80/40. The 757 has relays on the input and output circuits in the LPF section. Maybe a simple case of dirty contacts or a problem with the drive circuit to these relays. Do you hear any relays c...

Re: Wyong Field Day 2016 - Impressions
G'day All, Interesting comments!. I had an enjoyable time at the Field day. Thank you to the CCARC for putting it on again. A big thank you to those volunteers who worked hard all day to put something back into the hobby. The thing that is going to kill amateur radio in the suburbs is "Electrom...

Re: Low cost Maggy Lamp from Aldi
G'day All, I do board repair and I use a loupe with X2.5 for thru hole and gives a focal length of 4 to 6 inches with my eyesight. The stronger the magnification the closer the focal length and that soldering iron can end up very close. For SMD boards I have to use a dissecting microscope with a X10 ...

Co-Ax Cable strippers from China
G'day All, Ever wondered why those Chinese Coax strippers don't cut the cable in the correct positions for those crimp connectors. So I had some of these strippers I bought from my mates at TomTop on Ebay for a few dollars each post free. Set it for 58 cable and set the depth of the blades and cut t...

Re: Datum GPS Help
G'day Leigh, Thank you for the update. OK on the 30volts into the unit. I think the next step is to check the internal power unit in the GPS itself. The manual link shows it is an inverter (switchmode) with +/- 12 volts and +5 volts out. The power up sequence problems and low antenna volts is hopefu...

Re: Datum GPS Help
G'day Leigh, The 2.3 volts at the antenna is way to low even for a 3.3v preamp. (I suspect it should be 5.0 volts for that commercial unit.) I suggest you have a power supply problem. Check the power supply output volts are OK first. The manual listed in your post shows you should have +/- 12 volts ...

Re: Up 5?
G'day Stephen, Had to post when I saw the term LID. As another morse man the concept of up 5 is simple. The DXpeditioner calls on his "calling frequency" and listens on his "working freq". The calling frequency is then clear for him to call again. Experienced operators on CW woul...

Interference to 144.100Mhz to 144.240Mhz Concord NSW
G'day All, Had an interesting interference problem to the low end of 2 meters in Concord NSW. The interference was in the form of an unmodulated carrier that over a period of 7 days slowly drifted from 144.100Mhz to 144.240Mhz, then resets back to 144.100Mhz. The received signal strength was -93dBm ...
