Re: 6M JA-VK path...

Had a search amongst the archive boxes for my old logbooks. I had an inkling I had been on 2M SSB before and one logbook shows activity on 144.1 MHz circa 1978. Best DX was to Newcastle using 5W to an unknown antenna. More surprising was to find JA contacts on 6M at that time - obviously my memory ...

Re: 6M JA-VK path...

Hi Steve, 6m is arguably the most enigmatic of all the spectrum that amateurs have access to. Wayne has given a brief insight into Northern VK conditions and has provided a very good background of Afternoon TEP (aTEP) courtesy of Roger (who has also written extensively about Evening TEP as well). Th...

Re: Kenwood TS-2000 & signalink

Hi Andy <snip> What about over-heating problems with the TS-2000 on digital modes? Is the in-built fan enough or do I need to add extra cooling? With the Icom I had to sit it on a lap top cooling pad and use a couple of external cooling fans blowing in the vents. 73 Wayne VK4WDM G'day Wayne, Have n...

Glad to hear you sorted it Wayne!

I was going to offer some (non-Signalink based) advice as I have a TS2000X but seems you're on top of things! 8)

They're still a bloody good rig 14 yrs down the track!

Re: Kenwood TS-2000 questions

Hi Wayne, I have a TS2000X but don't suffer the surging that you've described. Does it occur on all bands? All modes? Alan could be right re AGC....is it possible for you to make a sound file and post it here? Re digital, yes, use USB. Edit: do you know what year it was manufactured? If not, make a ...

Re: Air powered tennis ball antenna launcher - legal?

I used to run around with my schoolmates with gings/shanghais, spud guns, airguns etc. We all survived! But that was before the Nanny State, which now keeps a close eye on whether you expel foul air in a public place, lest you destroy the environment/religious fanatics/oil or iron ore prod...

Re: What's on your Workbench?

Looks great Scott! And thanks for sharing the pictorial steps of your build....it certainly helped!  I decided to purchase a "ready built" LNA from MiniKits as my eyes aren't much cop these days with SMD....and anyway, Mark has all the test eqpt to ensure the LNA is doing w...

Re: What's on your Workbench?

Thanks Scott! Another crappy wx day today has enabled me to complete all the DC wiring, and the RG402 interconnections. It remains to wire up and calibrate the power meter, and to assist in that I purchased a little variable SMPS from Altronics ( http://www.altronics.com.au/p/m8303-powertran-30v-3a-...

Re: What's on your Workbench?

Hi Rick, thanks! It's been a "rainy day" project in the main (today I got quite a lot done! 8) ) so I now have just a bit of DC wiring to complete, and make up the two RG402 semi-rigids between the PA module and the xfer relay. Then it's "power up" time! The main SMPS i...

Thanks for the update on Bob, Gavin. Very sad. I was in regular email contact with Bob up until he advised me of his situation late last year.
If you do happen to see him again please give him my very best regards...I'm thinking of him in these difficult times.

Thanks for all the inputs so far...keep the discussion going! 8)

I doubt that I'll achieve a foolproof solution, but I do have some ideas that I've gleaned from all the above and other sources. I'll put the ideas to the test and if satisfied, I'll share here.

Re: A question of sequencing for 23cm

<snip> ... By now, you have worked out that PTT must come from the sequencer, not the mic. Owen Hi Owen, yes I had come to that conclusion. Perhaps a simpler solution would be to manually start the sequence to bypass the LNA then power up the PA and then use the transceiver PTT to operate the Tx re...

Re: Aluminium boxes

I encountered a similar problem when I needed and enclosure for a 3.4GHz transverter. The options are (a) limited and (b) expensive. I settled for a $15 toolbox from Bunnings (not aluminium, but I didn't care). DSC_0221.JPG DSC_0222.JPG DSC_0223.JPG Thinking outside the box and putting it into a bo...

Re: A question of sequencing for 23cm

Peter, LNA will be at yagis and PA will be adjacent to TS2000X. My QTH is a suburban lot so I don't have the luxury of space outside. Thanks to both Daves for their input. Most helpful guys! 8) The problem I'm trying to get my head around is how to effectively sequence everything (Rx to Tx) b...
