Hi Steve
While the dismantling was occurring what happened to the other signals from the tower? Were services shut down, reduced in power or what? Thanks for the post: a great story about the end of an era.
Thanks
John

Re: Anderson Powerpole Connectors.
Hi all I soldered 30 and 50 amp hour power poles for about eight years. Just recently I purchased the crimper from Powerwerx. It is an excellent device. Soldering is fine for connectors put in place and left in place, but for power poles in the field, eg SOTA, parks, crimped ones work better. There ...

Re: Why do we pay such a high cost of license
If we don't contribute a reasonable amount for a licence (that is, permission to operate on the airwaves) then the cost of administering our service is shifted to the general tax payer. In my view that is unfair. I think we are fortunate indeed to have the privileges we enjoy (every day in my case) ...

Re: REPUTABLE solar panel/system suppliers/installers VK5?
Hello John We have been off grid (RAP) for just on ten years. All I have done besides the routine maintenance of topping up the battery (24 cells), measuring the specific gravity and charging when there is no sun, has been to replace a capacitor in the generator (6KVA). We got our system from BP Sol...

Re: Things that annoy me and maybe others
Hello all The other day I was working a US amateur and someone starting to tune up on the frequency we were using. He said to me, John let's stop transmitting and allow this person to tune up - we don't want to interfere with him! I was most impressed. The down side is that it is too easy to give in...

Hi Iain and Tim
It was good to have a contact with you guys yesterday on 23cm FM.
I also checked out the 23cm FM repeater operating in test mode and linked Dstar repeaters VK5RWM A to VK5RWM C. So we know that the 23 cm module is working.

Re: Hand held in carry-on luggage
Hello all I travelled to Christchurch two weeks ago and carried two hand helds: a VX5R and a TH-K4 (70cm only radio). I got through security at Adelaide but at Sydney the antenna on the Kenwood showed up as a cork screw: the helical antenna caused me grief. I had to take the two radios from my back ...

Hi Andy and all those who responded. I am simply writing to say how much I admire and respect all of those, including you Andy, who have been responsible for these posts and comments. It is really good to see men being honest. I suspect there is an article here for AR. We are an ageing group despite...

Re: Mobile Mounting Suggestions
Hello RIc I have an 857 D and a UHF CB in my Nissan Patrol. Both are mounted down low on the cargo barrier (and are not visible), well earthed with bolts provided by Nissan. I did not drill any holes. Both radios have remote heads. These are mounted on a wooden replacement for the ash tray (no holes...

Hi Barry
I like your pictures. Well done and thanks for sharing them. I tried to work you from Scott Creek in the Adelaide Hills on 70cm when you were on Mt Arden - but not enough power at my end!

Re: 23CM Antennas
Hello I noted Wayne's (VK4) post last December about the Melbourne antenna made by Com-antenna. While his post was answered with another suggestion I wonder whether anyone has tried the 23cm antenna made locally. I noted the suggestion of importing the kit from the USA, but with our dollar only buyi...
