2m WSPR from RF64 during summer 2019/2020

There is now a WSPR station running on 2m from the top of our hill for the next 3 months. It is transmitting WSPR on 144.489 + 1540 Hz offset (144.490540), followed by a CW ident at + 600Hz offset (144.489600) sending ZL1SIX RF64VT. Re: 17 Meter Dipole Help Needed Please

Mike, A 3.65m long boom is too short to make a 3 element Yagi on 18.1 MHz that will match to 50 ohms with a split dipole and 1:1 balun. For that feed arrangement to 'work' and produce a low SWR, the boom length realistically needs to be around 5.5m long. However, a 3 element Yagi on a 3.65m long boo...

Re: High voltage cables and interference.

Hi Luke,

Like Peter said, your issue will likely be on receive not transmit ... but you will probably find more receive interference from various electronic devices (computers, modems, TVs, etc) in your home and your neighbour's homes than anything that those power lines will do.

Re: The future for amateur radio in VK

Yes Wayne, 1kW right off the bat! The reality is that few would make that sort of investment initially ... more likely buy or be given an FT/TS/IC-mumble 100W HF transceiver or a $49 'Chinese' VHF/UHF handheld. There is a short 'restricted operation' period to garner some practical and on-air experi...

Budding ZL Hams use that study guide (or a later updated version there of) as a self training tool. Some sit the exam directly via a NZART Branch exam supervisor (http://www.nzart.org.nz/exam/supervisors/). Some others also take a weekend "Get your Amateur Radio Licence" style of training ...

Re: PS-62 PICO balloon HF JT9 WSPR

Hi Jim, Those repeated transmissions often happens when the battery voltage is hovering around the threshold between the "full" and "reduced" levels. As the sun angle gets lower the battery voltage will drop below the threshold and the repeats will stop ... and the transmissions ...

Thanks Len (I think!) I was stunned at the difference the Beverage made to RX SNR on 30m ... a 'zero' noise country QTH helps too of course. Anyway, PS-62 continues along its merry way ... it took a bit of an altitude dip to 8000m ASL very late last night, but now seems to be doing cart wheels to ce...

JT9 decodes are being received and forwarded to Andy's server but not making it through the system to update Habhub for some reason. Hopefully he can find time while busy with work to correct that.

The JT9 data showed the battery was near the low voltage shut off level at 15:30UTC. Seems it "went to sleep" and has just "woken up" again now (20:30 UTC) with sun on the solar panels.

The data here says 5 weeks, 5 days and 5 hours flight time ... not bad, but a shame it could not hold on for a few more days to make a world circuit. Never mind, it took "the tourist route" and went places where none of Andy's balloons had gone before so it was quite entertaining. Now we w...

Re: PS-58 PICO balloon HF JT9 WSPR

It looks like Andy's server is down so the PS-58 JT9 decodes are not making it to the Habhub tracking site. Hopefully Andy can rectify the problem soon. In the mean time a watch can be kept via the WSPRnet.org spots from PS-58 (WSPR callsign = VK3ANH) keeping in mind that the "power level"...

Hi Murray, That is PS-59 at 1950 Hz 'offset' ... and currently SE of ZL. It is also transmitting WSPR with callsign VK3ANH at minute x4. PS-57 is at 1100 Hz 'offset' ... and currently in the Indian Ocean. It is also transmitting WSPR with callsign VK3YT at minute x0. PS-58 is at 1700 Hz 'offset' ......
