Re: IC-7600 Firmware Update

It worked OK for me Peter ... saved "all" memories and settings, loaded the new firmware, then loaded the file saved earlier to restore the memories and settings. The "OK" appears after one manually scrolls down the to the end of the warning box. I guess Icom want to make sure we...

Re: PS-43 PICO balloon HF payload WSPR JT9

A little bit of excitement over night ... http://www.qsl.net/zl1rs/images/PS43_dip.jpg Note the 'SOS' schedule kicked in as PS-43 fell below 5000m. The time frequency of the telemetry transmissions stepped up from the previous 'reduced' night time schedule of one every 30 minutes (subject to a decod...

Re: PS-43 PICO balloon HF payload WSPR JT9

Doug, we have a standing joke with Andy that the balloons are attracted to my "cows" :D There must be something in the upper atmosphere wind patterns because several flights that have followed roughly the track that PS-43 has taken have passed within a few hundred km of here. Those that fl...

Re: PS-43 PICO balloon HF payload WSPR JT9

... it is worth noting that the battery voltage displayed from the telemetry is the instantaneous 'loaded' voltage at the time of the transmission, but the controller makes the decisions on the 'unloaded' battery voltage while not transmitting, so there will be a discrepancy between the action taken...

Re: PS-43 PICO balloon HF payload WSPR JT9

Hi Brian, JT65 is not used anymore, only JT9 (until something more sensitive comes along!). JT65 was trialled after Olivia 8/250 was used initially (with poor success), but the wide bandwidth of JT65 meant it was more susceptible to QRM, so it was replaced with the much narrower bandwidth JT9 scheme...

Re: PS-43 PICO balloon HF payload WSPR JT9

This might be clearer: The bands and modes change according to the following schedule: Minute - Band - Mode - Condition :00 - 30m - 2 mins WSPR then two x 1 min JT9 - mandatory :10 - 20m - 2 mins WSPR then two x 1 min JT9 - if batt full :20 - 30m - 2 mins WSPR then two x 1 min JT9 - if batt full :30...

Not getting at you personally David, not at all.

Sorry to say, but PSK Reporter is well know as a source of "garbage in = garbage out" ...

By comparison, cluster spots on DXSummit over the same period filtered for "6m digi" found 10 spots for 7 QSOs.

Re: JT65, JT9, WSPR on 6m. Missed opportunity?

During the cycle peak just gone I only worked South America on JT65 and got signals both ways on WSPR with North America, but worked 5 continents on SSB and 6 continents on CW (couldn't find a sniff of VK0-Antarctica no matter much listening and transmitting while Craig and his beacon were there). T...

Re: PS-42 PICO balloon HF payload WSPR JT9

PS-42 made a high speed crossing of the Tasman Sea over night and is currently just leaving the east coast of ZL on it's journey towards South America. Here is the NOAA prediction for the next few days:

PS-41 is being received by ZS stations as it completes its crossing of the south Atlantic Ocean. Here is the NOAA prediction for the high speed run "home" to VK :

Re: Galagher XL fence wire suppliers ?

... my advice was to check the price at another source. >AU$600/1000m for fencing wire is way over the top when we farmers are normally paying NZ$79/605m roll for standard galvanised fencing wire. It seemed incongruous to me that an alternative would be so much more expensive. Did you ring a Gallagh...

Re: Galagher XL fence wire suppliers ?

I realise your end purpose is different, but no farmer here in their right mind would use that stuff at 5 or 6 times the cost of regular #12 high tensile galv fencing wire ... so try http://www.gallagher.com.au/dealers.aspx?state=QLD for a local farm supply dealer to compare the price with that eBay...

Re: Air powered tennis ball antenna launcher - legal?

Try here: http://www.casa.gov.au/wcmswr/_assets/main/lib100071/flying_with_control_model.pdf That is a leaflet outlining the MAAA rules which apply to its members and are more stringent than the actual CASA regulations (MAAA say so on their web site). Note the wording of the 4th rule about height (...

- quote="ZL1RS" By the way, the quad copter rules summary a few posts back ( "As long as you keep them under 400ft and a certain distance from people, buildings and aerodromes you are OK." ) are wrong. Read the CASA pamphlet (available on-line) about model aircraft carefully and...

What about something like this? http://www.arbormaster.com.au/shop/arbor-gear/arbormaster-big-shot-budget-kit/ I was thinking of getting one of these to fly wire antennas up into tall timber. 100 feet ... you can do the same and more with a fishing rod and sinker which is probably in your shed righ...
