Overseas visitors operating Ham radio.

I understand that the Ham radio regulations in VK changed earlier this year. I read through the stuff on the VK regulatory authority's site, but it is not 100% clear. Can overseas visitors now operate in VK for up to 90 days by simply using the callsign homecall/VK4 (or whatever region they are loca...

Re: 6m EME via wsjt

There are several big 6M stations that are workable even without ground gain while using a single yagi and some horse-power on 6M (with the appropriate permit, of course 8) My own escapades with a home made 6 element yagi and Acom1000 have put a few of them in my log. At 4X/ZL1RS I worked several st...

Re: Painting aluminium antenna

Some shades of green stand out like DB's too. I have seen some cell towers that were painted "the wrong shade of green" and, in my opinion, they look worse/stand out more than if they were left grey ... or maybe I am just looking upwards (antenna spotting) too often

Re: Stacking yagi's on 2m

Hi Scott, A 7 element will probably have about 10dB gain. Two stacked, less phasing line losses, etc = about 12.5dBd. You can get that with less hastle from a single 10-12 element yagi on a 5M boom. The K1FO 12 element design as suggested is good. Also see/google designs by YU7EF and DK7ZB. The YU7E...

Re: W2DU style baluns using Jaycar ferrites

BTW ... can anyone point me to a website or an article that gives a test method to determine the "mix" or permeability of unknown ferrite cores? Thanks, Bob.

Re: W2DU style baluns using Jaycar ferrites

Scrounged ferrites might be good, but for the balun to work correctly surely they need to be the correct type of ferrite material as impedance depends on the ferrite core ... its ferrite permeability and loss are frequency dependent. See the article: http://www.vk1od.net/balun/W2DU/index.htm - perme...
