I use a homebrew 8 el 436 mhz, 4 el 145 mhz cross yagi mounted on my tower with fixed elevation of 30 degrees because the horizon around my QTH is poor. Vertical polarity for UHF seems to be the go. Need to buy a rotator so i can track but that will have to wait, I get pretty good results usually be...

Dave, Have a look at the 40m full wave horizontal loop or sky loop, it dosn't need a balun can be direct feed, if tuned well to 7.100 mhz can be used on other bands without a tuner the swr is below 2.5 :1 although i do use a tuner.
