Re: Language choice on repeaters
I couldn't care less what language people use on repeaters. Bad manners though are bad manners in English or any other language, so not leaving gaps between overs may be a legitimate frustration, the choice of language though not so much. I agree this is the sensible position to take on this issue....

Re: Language choice on repeaters
Based upon the way they speak to english speaking people in the streets, they have very little tolerance of people failing to even attempt to speak in french. Not my experience with numerous extended work and private trips there over the years. In any case, hardly the same cohort but welcome to cha...

Re: Language choice on repeaters
I wouldn't dare be in say France and jump on one of their repeaters and rag chew with another English speaking person. It would be just plain rude and selfish. How would you know? I have no ideas how the French amateurs would think and say but suspect there'd be a variety, and some might join in in...

At $100 range in the US, I'd expect Tumi quality as a minimum. Similar to Peter, I've ordered a waist/bum sized Molle pack from Aliexpress for $16 delivered. Saw the same in a local disposal store for $35.

Re: Telstra complains of QRM!
Does this "mobile repeater" issue relate to mobile boosters? I note ACMA's site talked about them with differentiation. And what purpose does a guy have in having one of these sitting in the back of his car?

Base jump off a guyed tower. Lame in comparison to the free climb.

Re: Air powered tennis ball antenna launcher - legal?
If we are "screwed" under the current legislation, how would we be if we were to do what the American Hams are doing with a "big" quad rotor helicopter which has a remote controlled load release. I have seen reports and photo's of these being used for antenna "hanging"...

Re: Air powered tennis ball antenna launcher - legal?
How about bow and arrow? I understand that bow and arrows are legal here in NSW. Maybe a bit big than a slingshot, but it's legal. The only legal criteria of use is that it is not being used recklessly. I wonder if there are compact bows that actually works. Or maybe the arm is still the most conven...

Brilliant with thanks! Another PDF for my antenna folder. So many out there with minor differences, but they all work. Going to keep me busy for a while.

Re: Antenna opinions and suggestions (started with Tak-tenna
You could also try a sloping end fed half wave rather than a vertical half wave. That way you can get away from the carbon fibre issue of the squid pole interacting. It would also let you to collapse the squid pole and leave everything else basically setup (depending on your circumstances) for your...

Re: Antenna opinions and suggestions (started with Tak-tenna
Not a problem for HF NVIS work, where a vertical radiation pattern is desirable! NVIS? Haven't even thought about that. Interesting and will go into my list of things to try. Do people deliberately use this in the amateur world? I guess most non-directional antennas have a vertical compon...

Re: Antenna opinions and suggestions (started with Tak-tenna
Thanks Bob and Mike for your advice. The good news is that the experiments have started. As in the discussions, it's a bit mixed up as I'm trying a number of things. As I don't know just what will be suitable and suitable for my limited space, I can summarize my experiments as three, 1) Traditional ...

Re: Antenna opinions and suggestions (started with Tak-tenna
Weiyun, you need to be a bit careful with antenna tuners in the respect that their common name is a miss representation to what they actually do. They in no way effect the tuning of the antenna more they trick the transceiver into believing that it has a matched antenna and feed line attached to it...

Re: Antenna opinions and suggestions (started with Tak-tenna
}:[ Thanks guys. Knowledge and knowledge. It's not good enough to just copy designs found on the web. Interestingly though, I erected the CF pole earlier and hung that 8+m wire up along with that unun, the SWR characteristic changed dramatically. I was quite impressed. For 40M, 20M, 10M and 6M bands...

Re: Antenna opinions and suggestions (started with Tak-tenna
Thanks Peter on the perspective. For my situation, thin and lightweight is a "no-brainer" per reasons you listed as well as my future use on bushwalks. As such, whatever antenna I eventually settle on will be "upgraded" with DX-wire's and similar product in due course for further...

Re: Antenna opinions and suggestions (started with Tak-tenna
A question on lightweight dipole for inverted V deployment Thinking of constructing an inverted V dipole using a spec'ed 10m CF squid pole that has just arrived in the mail. Whilst it's a decently stiff pole, it does exhibit some expected flex in the thinner members nearer to the tip. So thinking of...
