Hi Leicester,
Adam performed that mod on his IC910H. You can see the result on his blog. The camera can sometimes lie when it comes to screen illumination. Not sure how much better it looks in real life.

FT817 VFO stacking
Hi All, According to page 21 of the manual, the FT817 has a stacked VFO system. It says in part, "There are two such VFOs per Amateur band , so you may set VFO-A to the CW sub-band, and VFO-B to the SSB sub-band, if you like." I think that means I can choose a band then toggle VFO a/b (ON ...

Re: 13CM SGlabs + 55W PA
A real easy path onto 10GHz is the W1GHZ series of transverters. Search for W1GHZ or check out my QRZ page. $$$easy comparable to SG labs but you have to build the boards and supply enclosure etc.

Re: The unsung hero of the toolbox
Well said Peter.
I'm still using the same set I bought from Jaycar about 10 years ago. I also thought they were a gimmick but they're still going well although the smaller one is starting to show signs of wear.
Money is never wasted on quality tools.

Re: Field day GPS
Hi Michael,
That's a really good looking project. Nice work cutting out the PCB for the GPS. As for adding pictures open the FAQ link at the top of the page and search for attachments. That should give you enough info to get started.
Great job.

Thanks Hayden,
As I understand it should only cost me $1682 to test it in the field.

Field day GPS
I think many of you would know about the excellent Arduino GPS by ON7EQ . David VK5KK and Wayne VK5APN took the original code and modified it to their own requirements. The standout modification was the 10 character Maidenhead display. This matches the resolution of the K7FRY locator page which make...

Re: What's on your Workbench?
Once in a while you realise there's enough bits in your junkbox to complete another project. Yesterday I completed a small 1296 transverter capable of 15W.

Re: What's on your Workbench?
Yes I know, After my previous post on the HUGE panel meter, you've all written in complaining that you can't find one and you don't have anything similar in your junk box. So, I looked in the junk box and found a 40x20 LCD. Why not make a big volt meter out of that? The principle is the same, FSD = ...

Re: What's on your Workbench?
Another example of how to make things easier on your workbench. Some of you will be familiar with HP test equipment including their range of power meters. The digital meters 436, 437, 438 are auto-ranging in 10dB steps and have a small relative reading panel meter that allows the user to twirl their...

Looking for ESA-L1500A manual
Hi All, I'm looking for the CLIP (Option 0BX, order E4411A 0BX or E4411AU 0BX or E4411-90005) for a HP ESA-L1500A analyser. I've already been to Keysight and the usual manual suppliers but come up empty. The service manual is only marginally useful advising that I should change out a complete assemb...

Re: What's on your Workbench?
Not quite ON my workbench, rather adjacent. Up until recently I used to trudge back and forth from my workbench to the operating position to research things on the dumbputer like IC pin connections and other information required during building of projects and/or repairing equipment. For a while I u...

Re: 2020 Summer VHF/UHF Field Day
Chris VK3ACG and I will be set up in the hills over looking Queenscliff looking towards VK7 for the first two hours of the contest. We have everything from 1296 to 10GHz in various configurations and power levels. VK7PD and crew advise that they will be looking towards VK3 for contact during the sam...

Re: 2020 Summer VHF/UHF Field Day
Heading out on Saturday only, all bands 1296MHz to 10GHz, NO low bands to make it a little more challenging. Splitting the day in two looking north for one half then re-staging over the ridge to look towards VK7 for the other. Had some good fun towards VK7 last year, hope to repeat the contacts.

Re: What's on your Workbench?
Oh nice,
I have some of the old Ch 7 uplinks built like a battleship but handcrafted (no two are the same inside) using 90's technology. Power OP ranges from 750mW to a whopping 10W in one case.
OK you've convinced me to move to 2403MHz.

I suppose not but TX output is less than +20dBm, surely that won't hurt?

Re: What's on your Workbench?
Following on from that I also have the 2043MHz version. The plan is to put them both in a box behind a grid pack with a dual band loop feed(!) just because I can.
