Re: 3.4 GHz Transverter Conversion (3.5 GHz WiFi transceiver
Nice one Hayden, Hang on to that panel if you can. It's a pretty good performer and has 18.5dBi gain. Chris VK3ACG has run his at 50W on several outings now with no ill effect or indication that it it is overheating. You're probably looking to build something bigger but it's nice to have a smaller a...

Re: 10 GHz amp - info required
These are very similar to the 5.7GHz amps I have seen inside a Telstra hut. They are part of a much bigger assembly which is mostly heatsink which hangs inside a rack. I assume the amps are interchangeable for different bands so it would make sense for all the interconnects to be the same for all am...

Re: The WIA and Google Suite
Since you asked, my choice to belong to the WIA would not hinge on the provision of an email redirect. At the risk of derailing the discussion I don't think the WIA core business should include providing IT services to it's members. That of course does not include the provision of a service portal s...

Re: What's on your Workbench?
Hi All, This is a Warp corporation WAS-1 peak reading power meter. I guess it was made in the 70's or 80's. Never seen one before and can't find any info on the interwebby about it. Comes with a HF, VHF and UHF power sensor and is auto ranging 20W, 200W, 2000W. Perhaps not surprising, the previous o...

Re: What's on your Workbench?
Does it have a partner and family? Time for a new shack! Hi Peter, I have two of them in my shack. Each gets one half of the room and they move around it slowly. I don't mind them because they keep the place clear of other bugs. I brought my wife in to show her and she suggested I burn down the sha...

Yeah maybe I'll measure that supply voltage another time.

Re: The Spectrian Amp for 2.4Ghz
Hi Hayden, I cut about 220mm off a bit of Unilab KL series heatsink and bolted it to the top of one of those nice Jaycar steel project cases. Cut a hole in the lid and fixed the amp directly to the heatsink. I ran about 20 mins of 45wpm dits at full power and the temp rose but not much. HS was only ...

Re: The Spectrian Amp for 2.4Ghz
Whilst these big amps look really nice it can be hard to provide a good supply for them when operating portable. When looking around for an amp for my portable system I found Joe also had these amps . Right supply voltage, plenty of gain and readily made 30W at 13.8V. The nice thing is they're almos...

Re: Microwave Operator Survey
Great to see so many names on the list. Just in case they're watching and haven't run an inventory yet I can think of a few missing operators. Most of these have systems 10GHz and below but I know some have at least 24 & 47 VK2DAG, VK2ZRH, VK3HZ, VK3KH, VK3NX, VK3QM, VK3TU, VK3YFL, VK3XPD, VK4UH...

Re: Video: IC-9700 VHF/UHF/1200 MHz Base introduction
It will require connecting the CI-V, decoding the band information using a suitable program (like Omnirig or a dedicated micro) ) and then using that information to control an external PTT switching unit. It's not insurmountable. I know one of the guys at the GARC wrote a CI-V decoder to convert to...

Re: Video: IC-9700 VHF/UHF/1200 MHz Base introduction
yup single PTT line is a curse on these rigs.. looks like the same surgery I did on my 910 will be needed once warranty expires. Peter If you can decode band data from the rig you could use some simple logic to regenerate a PTT line per band using the rig PTT as the master. No need to dig inside.

Re: Interference on 2 metres
Hi Hayden, The inspector that came out to investigate used a scanner with AM facility with one of those small el cheapo log periodic TV antennas. He also had a big rubber mallet to hit the base of the pole and had some TV test gear to measure the BER in our house. I did the same things using my FT81...

Re: Interference on 2 metres
Hi Hayden. A couple of years ago I started to noticed the S meter on 2m and 70cm on the rigs in my study bouncing to full scale. Around the same time we started getting TV interference. Short story, a pole some 70m from our house was causing interference. Usually on dusk for a few hours but never if...

Re: 2019 Summer VHF-UHF Field-Day Contest
Thanks Matt. Another fun contact on a couple of watts. On 1296 the transverter is a SG Labs and the antenna is a measly Bi Quad inside a biscuit tin. Pictures is my small portable system pointing towards you (not very informative) that I've designed to be quick to deploy. I don't really expect more ...

Adam wrote a summary of how an extra band might be added to this radio. Didn't fully absorb it but it's gone now.
