Re: My Pi Journey
Thanks Peter. You have reset my flagging memory - I now seem to remember the PW being 'raspberry' but I now have a new problem :- having done a system update (might or might not be relevant), am now getting a 'Failed to install file' message. Back to the drawing board. It's al fun cheers Grant

Re: My Pi Journey
I have a Raspberry pi-top CEED and have been trying to download and install WSPR ".deb" files from the WSTJ homepage. I get close, but keep getting the message that "Authentication is required to install untrusted software". Trouble is I don't have a password. Any thoughts would ...

Re: Exam / Licence Price & Young People ..
A sad state of affairs in ZL, it seems, Ken. Grant (and others) the WIA is working on improving things for all licence grades, Foundation holders in particular. See : Amateur licence conditions -latest moves , here: http://www.wia.org.au/newsevents/news/2015/20151227-1/index.php For Foundation Lice...

Re: Exam / Licence Price & Young People ..
Makes a lot of sense Wayne. I can't for the life of me think why Foundation Licensees should be excluded from digital modes. And, I wonder if there might not be a way whereby they could be allowed a little more flexibility in terms of rolling their own gear without endangering the spectrum unaccepta...

Re: Exam / Licence Price & Young People ..
Yes Peter - you are correct regarding the fees basis. Not sure, however, that fees are the real issue in getting youngsters on board. When I became interested, as a teenager in the '60s, the thing that caught my attention and kept me fascinated, was experimenting and putting together components with...

Re: WSPR Maps...Problems?
latest, this morning, is that I can't make the maps work on anything other than 30m. Is anyone else seeing this? I guess locking it on one band would reduce the traffic overload issues. Grant

Re: WSPR Maps...Problems?
I'm having no success again this morning. If it's an issue of funds, I suspect that there would be people around prepared to contribute. Does anyone have any thoughts or background along those lines?

Re: ISS Monday night
Well done Wayne. Nothing heard here though. I have to figure out what went wrong. Fairly quiet 2m front end, decent communications with proper FM discriminator, more than! 10dB of ant gain pointed in the right direction as far as I can tell but horizontally polarised! Did anyone else have success? G...

Re: ISS Monday night
At the risk if demonstrating I know nothing about space comms: what direction should I beam (or would I be better off with my little halo?) and how big a signal can be expected?
Re: WSJT-X
As I recall, the 1D8 comprises a diode, a triode and a pentode (or maybe for this last one, a tetrode?). That sounds like 3 anodes?

Re: Change WSPR Receive window -Question
No worries Brian. As regards transmitting off frequency, more than likely, it's not intentional. Calibration errors of up to 50Hz seem relatively common, and I suspect some kit is worse still. Not sure if yours is locked to a high accuracy standard such as GPS? If not, it's possible that part of the...

Re: Change WSPR Receive window -Question
Yes Brian, my understanding is that SSB BFO frequency offset of 1500Hz is pretty much universal in commercial transceivers. On the related issue, however, from what I've seen (on 2m at least) there is the odd transmission that falls significantly outside the designated 200Hz WSPR window and if we ar...

Re: Change WSPR Receive window -Question
G'day there Brian
I may be missing the point, but have you tried simply tuning your receiver down a couple of hundred Hz?
Hoping I'm not telling you how to suck eggs.

Re: Shock horror the Price of license fee's has changed
The fact is that the ACMA charges on the basis of strict cost recovery and regularly goes through a quite rigorous internal process to ensure that they charge neither too little nor to much. Changes in process and corresponding administrative charges are therefore reflected in the fee. We should be ...

Re: How big a change is needed to stop the apathy ?
Well, my two bobs worth: I contested keenly on 2m AM back in the early 70's and as a bit of a dinosaur, still make do with whatever gear I can lash up at home - I don't run to fancy commercial transceivers. Thus, I was disappointed to find that my home brew gear - albeit SSB this time around - is pr...
