Re: Chinese CODAN intruding into the 40m band
Bet the Yanks are listening in with interest.
Wish I knew how to decode the Codan tones and more so decode the GPS data they are sending.
Would be a good exercise.

Re: Chinese CODAN intruding into the 40m band
Last night happened to arise just before 1.00am and spent some time tuning around 40M and yep, there they are. Tabulated are the frequencies I heard Codan telemetry tones on. 1358UTC USB in KHz 7106, 7108, 7112, 7121, 7124, 7130,7139, 7142, 7144, 7157, 7160, 7194. As well heard a swarm of AM S/W bro...

Re: Chinese CODAN intruding into the 40m band
Amazed the Chinese military are using Australian Codan equipment for this purpose. Would have thought there is plenty of Chinese made equipment they could use. As an aside, noticed a while back on QRZ a Chinese ham putting up posts about using Codan radios for his ham radio activities. Seems Codan i...

The ABC ran much more powerful transmitters than would BOM.

Loss of ABC Shortwave put fishermen at risk
This news story popped up about a commercial fisherman and his crew caught at sea in Cyclone Trevor. Of course we were told of the excellent on line service and VHF FM network which are accessible to all. https://www.abc.net.au/news/rural/2019-03-20/cyclone-trevor-nightmare-for-gulf-of-carpentaria-f...

Certainly hope not, the thought of having to drag a computer about where ever one goes would be to painful to contemplate.

The relays would be good value at least, aerial changeovers and the like.
Some good finds there.

Re: Icom IC-9700 Pre-release brochure
Very nice radio, afraid the lousy exchange rate for the Aus dollar will not help. Still it's good to see interest in a dedicated higher band radio rather than some h.f thing with 2M/UHF tacked on as a sales gimmick afterthought.

Re: 40M radar interference
For those whom may wish to send in a report on this OTH radar or others, following is a link to the WIA IARU intruder report form which is very easy to fill out. http://www.wia.org.au/members/protecting...derreport/ Apparently this particular one has been about before. Thanks to those whom send in r...

Sent off a intruder report to the WIA even though it is now gone. Could be a return visit some time in the future.

Re: 40M radar interference
A day ago at 0920UTC the Chinese OHR radar stopped and moved to just below the 40M amateur allocation. No longer a bother to us on 40M happily however must be a nuisance to the S/W broadcasters and other services.
A very wide 234KHz signal and as before very strong.

Re: 40M radar interference
Thanks for the comments re Spratly Islands and have seen news reports incidents between the USN and the Chinese on rights of passage. Which would explain this spat of Chinese OHR interference which apart from tracking ships is probably a form of electronic intimidation. Will listen again tonight and...

Re: 40M radar interference
It has been running for a while and pretty well wiping out 40M. When those Russian wargames were going there was all sorts of OHR appearing all over the bands. Saw quite a few comments on other forums. This one seems to be a fixture at least for the present. Don't know whether it is just affecting u...

40M radar interference
Presume its radar a loud harsh stacatto buzzing on 40M. Seems to be more or less centered on 7027KHz, down to about 7007KHz and upto about 7047KHz. Starts around 4.00pm EST and have heard it till about 8.00am EST. Very strong s9+ here in Bathurst. Anyone else getting plastered by this or is it just ...

Re: Spectacular lightning wiped out all broadcast radio. Wh
One site tech related a story to me, he opened up the door to the radio hut to find a whole lot of bits of bakelite embedded into the wall. A lightning bolt hit a row of old style telephone terminal boards and shattered the lot. In his opinion anyone who would have been in the hut at the time would ...

Re: Spectacular lightning wiped out all broadcast radio. Wh
Over the years have heard the local AM ABC transmitters go off air for a short period of time and then come back to operation. As already mentioned either generators cut in due to mains failure or overload protection circuits trip and reset. Certainly would not want to be hanging around radio towers...

Wow this brings back memories. Although 1968 is before my entry to amateur radio dimly recollect discussion on these sets.
Don't know of anyone whom makes YL1060's nowadays so getting spares would be something of long search.

Pity we are so far away from Sweden, it would be unlikely anyone could hear the Alexanderson in this country.
Will listen out for the stations on 80/40/20 though.
