SOTA activation of "The Vere"

Hi team, My Army unit is doing a shake-out of it's Field Workshop in early March and as the ASM, I have a choice where I can deploy the workshop... Now if you happen to have a SOTA summit in the middle of a restricted military training area, where would be a really, really cool place to go? "Th...

Re: Hiram Maxim - a family of creating death?

Given the title of the original post, I wonder who else knows that the "new and improved" 7.62mm version of the 5.56mm Minimi is called the " Maximi "? The Maximi is very much the same as the 5.56mm version, sharing 95% of it's parts, but is much better to operate and doesn't fal...

Re: Hiram Maxim - a family of creating death?

Interesting that there is a secret society, especially given the name 'Hiram'. I own about nine Maxim machine guns (that is they are on my signature) being the "light" and "medium" versions and they are all fireable. http://www.nrablog.com/post/2013/02/13/Triggers-takes-NRAs-Maxi...

Re: Your callsign must reflect your address

As a Defence member, I regularly (annually) used to change address, usually between different states of Australia. I was sick and tired of constantly changing callsigns so I approached ACMA on the matter who told me just to advise change of address and keep the callsign which suited me. This drew im...

Re: Operation on 88-108mhz FM band

Old mates signal was still stereo at about 2400 metres. Didn't ask to have a look at his transmitter as he was just a cashed-up coal miner from around here who doesn't give a rats behind. As far as being an ACMA quasi cop, I feel we should all be mindful of this kind of operation as we have the tech...

Operation on 88-108mhz FM band

Note a lot of non-radio operators with Christmas light displays transmitting Christmas carols on the 88-108mhz FM band. Surely this can't be legal as one chap told me his "licence to operate" came with the transmitter (presumably from HK). When questioned further, he had no idea what ACMA ...
