Re: VKLink Repeater Linking Project

Hi Hayden, I tried to give VKLINK a whirl a few years back and again this year. Unfortunately for me I had no luck in getting the system to function, tried every raspberry pi image available on their website and kept getting errors when running the USB interface tests. When the Grampians Linked Repe...

Re: Check You License Renewal

Let us know how you go Nik.

I paid the clubs two licenses the day after they were due early this week and I checked today after seeing your post and they show up as expired. I had to get the ACMA to email the invoice as we still had not received it by the due date.

Re: Check You License Renewal

I checked our club PO box just over a week ago with nothing but a bank statement, I knew the clubs license & repeater license were up for renewal in July sometime. I have only just remembered tonight that I should check the renewal date and they both expiry today. People blame the Australia Post...

Re: Spectacular lightning wiped out all broadcast radio. Wh

If not caused by power failure some broadcast transmitters might see a high SWR from nearby lightning causing the TX to turn off or lower its power, then return back to normal after a period of time.

I also updated repeater information for anything out my way but it seems a few have gone offline or is suffering interference.

Re: Your licence is due for renewal but

I received my "licence renewal application" probably late April early May despite the issue date being late March for my licence which were to expire late June. Only today did I receive my renewal notice with 5 days to pay, the issue date being early June. Is the ACMA being slack and delay...

I use very similar if not the same 3M sticky with a red side to mount my GPS reciever for APRS to the windscreen with any issues.

Re: PS-41 PICO balloon HF payload WSPR JT9

Are there any rules on transmitting outside our country boundaries? The reason I ask because those who travel overseas usually apply for an equivalent license for that particular country? Or is this a grey area due to the altitude.

Re: Condenser Microphone Phantom Power

I've seen portable phantom power units using a couple 9v batteries. I dont think it has to be 48 volts, my thinking is 48 volts is the standard to over come voltage drop over the distance of a microphone cable which could be a hundred feet or more. A quick google gave me these links ... http://shure...

Re: DSTAR Vs C4FM Vote

Hi Glen How many dollars for a dmr repeater? Sorry, I have been out. Between 4 and 5 thousand. Depends on whether your dealer offers the Motorola diacount for not for profit organisations. Now, BEFORE you descend upon this thread righteously proclaiming that it is too expensive, let me preempt your...

Re: DSTAR Vs C4FM Vote

The DMR based MARC network is now a global network and offers amateurs a very powerful digital platform. Radios are very cheap (under $200) but offer very high quality comma. In some ways I hope D-Star and Fusion will just die and DMR and P25 become the amateur "standards". I was interest...

When will the website be updated? I'll be away camping that weekend and thinking I'll make up the 80m coil for my squid pole antenna and give it a go.

Re: Have you recently tried becoming a WIA Exams Assessor?

I've been an assessor for sometime now, i find the process rewarding. However I am looking forward to seeing the paperwork side of the process streamlined, it sometimes takes longer to complete the paperwork than carrying out the assessment. As for the process to become an assessor, before starting...

Could you use a foot of RG58 to get the capacitance? A bit like how some traps for trapped dipoles are made.

Re: Where are you???

Maybe I can whip something simple up for you Lou that takes callsign, grid square and maybe a comment. No login system, just a straight form with a download button which generates a KML with any entries from the last 48/72 hours. We can see how it goes from there.

Re: Shipping costs re purchased goods from MFJ Enterprises

I've considered buying two items from the states one being a Micro-Trak (RTG) from Byonics which is over $200USD and because of this higher price tag they charge approx. $50 for P&H. However items less of $200USD ship at a much lesser rate. The second item was a DMK URI from DMK Engineering whic...

Re: Where are you???

Understood but that doesn't give you an indication of who is really out there on contest day. Some of the data in the logger db has not been touched for years. VK4ADC runs a checklist from the logger data but from recollection it's a manual task. Our group researches the possible contacts through p...

I'm sure a KML file could be generated from the VKLogger data if the webmaster is up to it. Doesn't have to be contest related.
