Re: Brisbane beacon summary

Error code E07 is used - it's a high temp alarm. It comes on when the 2 meter PA reaches 45C. I checked my software this morning for Gary 4GU.

Re: MAD - Sunday March 24, 2019

Hi Adam Couldn't agree more with your comments. This is why I gave up bothering with the 23/23 and MAD days a long time ago, total chaos every time and total lack of coordination despite Scott's efforts. Then throw in the current episode with the VK5's (only here to break records nothing to do with ...

Re: Video: Basics of the Smith Chart

Thanks Adam Bought back good old memories of the smith chart. Fortunately (or unfortunately) I used one on a regular basis and managed to be given a slide rule smith chart at the end of my training back in 1970. I think these would be fairly rare these days. I still have it but use software versions...

Re: What's on your Workbench?

Hi Lou Been doing some more investigation into this issue. EEProms do have limit as I have found out. The memory capacity is dependent on 2 things, temperature and voltage. A high temperature and a high voltage will limit the memory retention of the device. The EEProm in the FT817 operates at 5 volt...

Re: What's on your Workbench?

Hi Lou Interesting question. The particular 817 I bought in 2004 so it's 12 years old but not a lot of use, the odd contacts from Nauru and Manus Island where I worked with the US Gov and a bit more use from 2013 when I got back into microwave activity. My guess it it just suffered a premature failu...

Re: What's on your Workbench?

Had an interesting fault with my FT817. It kept coming up in dual watch mode, antenna always to the front connector, SSB step size at 2.5Khz, MTR to ALC and showing the FST button had been pressed. Every thing else was working normally. Going into the menu's and setting everything as I wanted it the...

Re: Please Mr ICOM I would like a IC-910 replacement

Hi Lou I also have a HackRF and have copied 4OE over a 182k path at 3.4ghz using a pcb log antenna. Using GNURadio and GNURadio companion you can build an interface to Rx and Tx in any mode including P25 with DES OFB encryption like the emenegncy services are now using.(OK you don't know the encrypt...

Re: 23 on 23 Plus MAD - Sat July 23rd 2016

VK4ALF, 4BOO, 7RR/p4 and myself are going to Howells Knob for this activation with 1.2G thru 10G. I will take 24G gear as well for Kevin and Peter if they are going to be around. If Peter still has the 47G equipment I would be happy to take that as well.

Re: Hp Z3816a GPSDO

Following on from Wayne's advice I use some software called Z38xx which may work for you.

http://www.ulrich-bangert.de/html/downloads.html

Download the software and there's a debug window that lets you see whats happening including the survey times and sat data

Re: Hp Z3816a GPSDO

Hi Kevin Do you have the right antenna, I don't remember what the 3816 is but you can have either 3 volt or 5 volt antenna's and sometimes (but not always) a 5 volt antenna won't work with a 3 volt source. Quite often there is a jumper link internally to select the antenna voltage. When I got my 381...

Re: V360CL 5A NEC TRPA

Hi Peter I see a couple of the comments asking what the power level is above 30Mhz, which confirms what you said. I wasn't specifically referring to your setup but trying to refer to the general lack of knowledge in the ham community. Above 30Mhz the LCD states that for digital you can run 120 watts...

Re: V360CL 5A NEC TRPA

Hi Peter You stated on your web page "Digital modes can be run at 200W out " maybe into a dummy load but not legally on air. We are limited by the LCD to 120 watts on all digital modes. See the attached document produced by the WIA and vetted by ACMA, it states the regulation quite clearly...

Re: The 3.4 GHz amateur band - it's future ?

It's going to be interesting in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. Just did a search and virtually no licenses have been issued. The local council (Sunshine Coast Regional council) has rejected most of the NBN's site proposals for this area based on amenity issues. 18 sites that I am aware of so far and...

Re: Video: Analogue panel meter basics

Boy mucking around with old meters, we used to do this when we were children. Now spend $5 and buy a professional looking meter from China with the scale and shunt you want. If you need something special use the Meter program (www.tonneSoftware.com) to make a new scale to suit a particular requireme...
