Hi, the transistors I bought weren't cheap either. Just plain and simple fakes. Thankfully there is paypal.
I suspect this is going down the path of requesting a certificate of conformance with the purchase, given the amount of cash involved. >>>> approved suppliers.

Re: Counterfeit BLF188XR
I bought one of those fake transistors.... you could see the tabs weren't correct and the inkjet part number. I complained that is was a fake and the nice eBay lady gave me my money back. I was even prepared to bride the guys at work in the NDT lab with a packet if Tam-tams to get it x-rayed. :twist...

Hi Wayne,
However, there is no substitute for a good QSO.
A few times I have watched WPSR between myself and Peter, ZL4LV and picked the best time to put out call on SSB.

It's not hard to check if WSPR spots are genuine. In the case the spots prior to N3IZN, is me with VK3PP. I leave my 6m WSPR gear running all the time, so if there is propagation it is reported and others might be able to take advantage

Re: pre amps for 2m pre amp or LNA
Hi Steve, Mount the PreAmp/LNA at the antenna. You are using the amplifier to overcome the loss of the coaxial cable and the Noise Figure (NF) of your radio. Google Friis Law. Basically you will be going from a NF of (Cable loss + Radio Noise Figure) to NF of PreAmp. Also you need enough gain to ove...

I had fun... hurriedly putting up a 160m OCFD, in place of my 80m OCFD, finishing the task with 2 1/4 hours to before the contest started. Going around the house turning off all the known emitters of EMI (no internet, no big screen TV, and no LED lights)... I still had a few issues, with S5 to S6 on...

One you can mount in enclosure with feed thrus on the input and output. Working professionally in EMI, all I can sat is shielding and filtering.

Hi,
The other approach might be to narrow the issue down to a power pole (if it is an insulator arcing) and give the power authority a call.

Re: Legally Indentifying
Hi Nev,
Yes, it does when you turn it on....
On the U3S I have, you need to program additional transmit frames, and with limited to 15 frames it is a real pain.
Hence my comment, why wasn't it built into the standard on day 1, as it is generally a licensing requirement??

Re: Legally Indentifying
Hi Steve, Good point about the CW ID. The 80m WSPR frequency here in VK2 is interesting. The WIA has it's weekly broadcast on 3.595MHz LSB. I have managed to remember turn off the U3S just in time, a few times. Prefer not to rock the boat on this one. Silly question, but why wasn't a morse ID progra...

Hi Nev,
Planning on using a RTL dongle and a up convertor. RTL dongle runs from the USB port. A PSU is required for the up converter.
HDSDR and virtual audio cables and WSPR software.
