What sort of data do they output?

What do I need to decode it?

Re: Twisting feeder

Yep, I was going to mention the wind effect too. Putting in a twist stops the flapping.

A bit like putting a twist in ratchet straps when securing a load on a trailer. The twist stops the strap buzzing in the wind.

Wayne,

Not sure what model you have but a quick google brought up this page, indicating 24V http://www.rigpix.com/rotators/fukner_fu400.htm

Re: New to 6 m band

Well judging by all the previous comments, looks like I won't be firing up the new rig on 6m any time soon. No fun there.

Think I'll hang on 10 and have some more fun :)

Re: SOTA - Scouting Mt Hay, near Leura NSW

I'm pretty sure the activation zone needs to be no more than 25m vertically from the summit and you need to carry all your equipment into the activation zone.

Driving up is cheating :(

Re: Fishing rod for mobile whip

I am mostly interested in 20m mobile as a starting point so am not too fussed about building interchanegeable coils. This makes construction a whole lot easier because I don't need the threaded ends on each coils. I will just use a single fibreglass rod (1 piece) and then mount the coil around it in...

Solid, that makes sense, thanks Mike.

I know what you mean, "efficient hf mobile antenna", bit of an oxymoron. :D

Re: Fishing rod for mobile whip

Hi Mike,

I got mobile.exe working, all good. It designs the coils fine but what about the whip part? I assume they are helically wound above and below the coil? Or maybe not, does it assume solid sections above and below?

Re: Fishing rod for mobile whip

Yep, already noted another op indicating mobile.exe doesn't work on Win7 64. I'll have to crank up the old laptop.

On a side note, I have had some success with a base loaded helical for 20m I made based on a stripped down CB aerial.

p.s. thanks for the link Terry

Thanks Mike,

I've had a bit of a google at work but the thought police have blocked a few things.

I'll have another look tonight at home.

Re: Fishing rod for mobile whip

Thanks Jim, Sounds like you've had some fun from the car. As you pointed out, the mechanics of it can be as difficult as the electrical side, sourcing ferrules and other threaded bits and pieces. If I work at my normal rate, I may have something on the air by Christmas this year. hi hi. 73s. Murray

Re: Fishing rod for mobile whip

Thanks all for the advice.

I'm fiddling with something for 20 (and maybe 40) at this point.

I didn't even know about the fibreglass rods at rural supplies, I'll check them out next.

All good fun, thanks again. :)

Fishing rod for mobile whip

Hi all, I am tinkering wiht the idea of building a centre loaded mobile 'whip' but need something sturdier than the old CB whip that am presently fiddling with (base loaded) Are the new range of fishing rods suitable for use or does the graphite component upset the apple cart? Obviously, an old fibr...

Re: Azden PCS2800 repairer?

Thank you VK4GHZ for inspiring me! The Azden finally died totally (was initially intermittent). I took the covers off, found the PLL board, pushed on prodded all the electros (there were about 10 of them) and bingo, pushing on one of them fixed it. So I'm not sure if it was dried out (does that norm...

Re: Azden PCS2800 repairer?

Thanks for the advice gents, I think you're onto it when you suggest a dried out electro but with all things involving Murphy, the fault hasn't really reared it's head lately. It's an intermittent thing but the radio has turned on faultlessly for a while now. Hopefully it will fail after the Summer ...

Re: Azden PCS2800 repairer?

Adam, You're dead right, the cost of freight and labour will probably outweigh what it's worth. The fault is also intermittent at the moment so I could send it off only to get the response 'no fault found'. I was hoping (optimistically) that someone might respond with "yeah there's a bloke in C...
