Re: Announcement: SE VK4 MAD – August 23, 2020

Have we made an official start time for this MAD. It seems we are good at agreeing to a date but never a starting time. The earliest I can be on site at Howells Knob is 11am but I don't want to be up there all day so please can we make an official start time so we can plan our travel times. Robert V...

Re: Announcement: SE VK4 MAD – August 23, 2020

I plan to be at Howells Knob (QG63JF) again working 1296, 2.4, 5.7 and 10Ghz. I also hoping to get a couple more SCARC members working 23cm. I just need an exact starting time so I can work out my travel plans.

Re: Announcement: SE VK4 MAD – July 26, 2020

My apologies for this weekend as I now won't be able to play microwave on the 26th. I will be in Rockhampton on that weekend and sorry to say I won't have room to carry any gear with me to try a 600Km QSO  . Mt Archer in Rocky would be a great spot to try from. I'm not too sure how many up this...

Re: Winter 2020 VHF-UHF Field Day Contest - 20&21 June

Sunshine Coast ARC VK4WIS will also be entering the Winter field day from the Sunny coast QG63MI. Working 6m to 2.4Ghz and possibly 5.7Ghz and 10Ghz. We don't have 3.4Ghz at the moment. We will be entering the 24Hr section but not operating over night. We will shut down from around 8pm or 9pm Saturd...

Re: Brisbane SEQ MAD Sunday 24 May 2020

We had a great time up at Howells Knob working the Special Event Call Sign VI250COOK. Even Glenn VK4FSCC got in on the act working a bit of HF with his home brew Ozziepole antenna. We did miss a couple of stations possibly due to terrain but we did our best to get everyone on the log. Big thanks to ...

Re: Brisbane SEQ MAD Sunday 24 May 2020

My original plans were to go portable at Howells Knob on the Saturday (23rd) as that weekend (22nd to 26th May) the Sunshine Coast ARC has the use of the special event call sign VI250COOK and I already had a roster going as to who was using the call sign and when. But now that you guys have decided ...

Re: 23-on-23 + MAD: Saturday May 23, 2020

I prefer the Saturday as I had plans in place to run the special event call sign VI250COOK and the Sunday for me is taken up with other activities for the call sign. I'm easy either way but the Saturday is already planned.

Re: 23-on-23 + MAD: Sunday February 23, 2020

Well I would like to say thanks to everyone who took part in today's MAD. We had a lot of fun up at Marry Caincross park despite the rainy weather. Just a bit of a heads up. The next weekend MAD should be the 23rd May so just 3 months away and I'm hoping for this one to be a big one for SCARC as we ...

Re: 23-on-23 + MAD: Sunday February 23, 2020

Hi All. Sorry for my late posting here. Lack of time and a lost password hasn't helped but at least the password has now been solved. (Thanks Adam) At this stage our club group (Sunshine Coast ARC) Should be on air from around 10:30am from Marry Caincross Park to work all the home stations and early...

Re: Viewing laptop screen in bright sunlight.

I have the same problem with our Day time MAD's up here in S/E VK4. I know I don't have a photo of it but I once cut the side off a cardboard box that fit neatly over the top of the laptop and duct taped it to the portable table. It worked real well so being a bit of a wood worker I'm working on the...

Re: MAD - Sunday March 24, 2019

Well I would have loved to have been out on the Sunday playing microwave but unfortunately for me I had other commitments that I could not get out of and if there is one thing I hate it's missing out on a microwave weekend especially when interstate microwave operators are in town. I would have love...

Re: MAD - Sunday February 24, 2019

With TC Oma now approaching the VK4 coast, the WX forecast has changed and by the weekend we're now looking at 60-70% chances of rain... But at this stage falls of less than 10mm! It's an MAD weekend so I would put the chances of rain much closer to 100% chance of rain and lots of it. I don't think...

Re: An Unexpected Outcome of FT-8

If you wish to run low power, then that's fine but don't denigrate those that use higher power to make that contact, if that's what they wish to do!! Ok fair enough some people have to use a higher power to make a contact that might be fading with QSB or with the band conditions changing Etc. I wil...

Re: An Unexpected Outcome of FT-8

Well as a long time user of digital mode and more so FT-8 I'm glad to hear some positives about the mode. I have also received some nice QSL cards from contacts made on FT-8. It is a great mode but still a lot of people don't fully understand the concept of the mode. It is a weak signal mode and was...

Re: 23-on-23 - Saturday Febrary 23, 2019

Saturday night will be 50/50 for me as most of the gear will be packed for the Sundays MAD. If I get a good bit of notice on here and on other forums that there will be a few on air for the Saturday night then I will go for the short drive up to Buderim and just run 23cm as the gear will already be ...

Re: MAD - Sunday February 24, 2019

As mentioned in another forum I will be activating Howells Knob QG63JF for the MAD. I will be working 1296, 2.4, 5.7 and 10Ghz. I'm still waiting to hear on an official start time. Most MAD's in the past have started around 1 or 2pm. I can't see any reason why we can't start earlier like maybe 10 or...

I still find it hard to believe that so many people can have a whinge and bitch about FT-8 and how it will be the end of the hobby. Well how about for once you all stop being so self centred and think about others who are out there. For example me. I'm now almost stone deaf as much as I would like t...

Re: 23-on-23 - building activity

The one thing is for sure and that is there is a very rapid decline in the VK4 participation of the 23 on 23. It was quite easy for me to get 8 or more contacts on 23cm alone. Now I'm luck if I can get 2 or 3 contacts on 23cm. My real problem is I can not work 23cm from home due to all the terrain a...
