Re: FT-817 DC Input Socket
Hi guys, I am also struggling with this problem. I think I have been able to remove the broken off plastic ring through gentle persuasion with a straightened out gem clip. I have also purchased a Sotabeams power pole FT817 connector as suggested by Andrew above, but that plug doesn't fit snugly into...

Re: 2.4 GHz contact in Southern Tasmania over mountains
Thanks guys for all the information; great stuff. I am in communication with Andrew about his home brew plans for antenna. I don't think it'll be too long now before I join you guys on the band.

Re: 2.4 GHz contact in Southern Tasmania over mountains
Hayden, I am about to order a 23cm transverter from SG Labs and am wondering if a mesh antenna like the one you used in this video would be the way to go. If so, where did you get yours?

I have floated the idea of 23 on 23 with a mate in VK5 who thinks it is a marvellous idea. He will spread the idea among VK5 proponents of the 23cm band.

Re: 23 on 23: Tuesday July 23rd 2019
I spent the hour calling and calling with no success on 1296 FM as well as the repeater on 1273.50 FM. For me it was a waste of time. No contacts at all. I don't think I'll do it again on FM. I may end up purchasing a 23cm transverter for the odd field day but that's about it.
Sorry, I did try.

I will be on FM, having arranged to borrow and Alinco hand held. Will put out calls on 1296 FM as well as work the VK4RMC repeater.

Hi Adam,
I don't have 23cm capability in the shack just yet (am planning on ordering an SG Labs transverter in the not-too-distant future) but will alert Wal VK4CBW to try contacting you via VK4RMC 23cm FM on the night. He does have the capability now and is new to the band.

I plan to be active on 2m SSB and FM at the aptly named Pooh Corner Nature Reserve, VKFF-2878.

Has the interference problem been sorted out? Do we still need the DCS of 143?

Re: 2019 Summer VHF-UHF Field-Day Contest
I will set up my portable station (FT-817 and VHF Packer 6m 30W amp), SSB and CW on Saturday from 0100 UTC Saturday morning on Mt Coot-tha. I will be in the 8 hr section but probably won't be there all that time. I will also have 2m/70cm FM hand held listening on the usual calling frequencies.

Hi Adam. Strangely enough I happened to have watched this video only yesterday. Most interesting. And he does have one of the best channels on you tube! Second only to Dave Jones's. (EEVBLOG).

Re: 23-on-23 - building activity
I am following this thread with interest. I have no 23cm equipment so have never taken part, but what I observe here in VK4 in general is in sync with your experiences with 23 on 23. I am involved in SOTA, being the administrator for VK4 and participation here is also dismal compared to the southern...

Linux software to record grid squares?
I am running Ubuntu 11.10 and would like to know if there is any software to record 6m grid squares worked. Any ideas?

JT6M
Is it possible to operate on this mode with a 6m vertical antenna? Don't have a beam just yet, only the vertical.

TNC for Packet
I am keen to get involved with Packet radio on 2m and 70cm FM and want to know more about the TNCs. Are any available as software only (and if so where?) or are they hardware devices only. I haven't come across any, but would prefer a software-based one is any are available.

Re: Feederline question
Thanks Owen, as always, I appreciate your input. I will attend to that on the weekend and report back. May have to redesign my antenna arrangements somewhat. I guess it is all about compromise if you don't want your home to look like an antenna farm!

Feederline question
I have always been able to trigger the Gold Coast 2m and 70cm repeaters with my FT-7800 from the shack here in Brisbane (as well as other local repeaters). I use a dual band vertical Antenna with 3.5dB and 6.5dB gain respecrively. This is fed with a short run (about 10ft) of RG213. Recently I instal...

Thanks Leigh. that's good to know. Will persist; maybe I'll get lucky with some tropo!
