Re: LoRa WAN - Testing in Amateur Bands
If it involves frequency hopping, no.Would it be legal ?
The ACMA considers frequency hopping breaches a number of clauses in the LCD and so it isn't permitted in the amateur service.

If granite, those rocks could be lightning attractors.
A mate who used to live on a property in central Victoria with many such boulders above and below ground was regularly having hits around the place. His gear was always disconnected when TS were around and so never suffered.

Re: Spectacular lightning wiped out all broadcast radio. Wh
Not knowing the disposition of the radio stations down there, but it sounds to me like they may all be at the same location or close by. Maybe first, the strike took them all off air and at the same time tripped the mains. Then the station generators would have started up after around 30 seconds, an...

Re: 160m resonator kit for Butternut HF9V
I know that the efficiency won't be very good and the ban width narrow, but the old adage applies - any antenna you have is better than no antenna at all. I once had a HF6V with the 160m resonator, and yes while the efficiency wasn't flash (probably equivalent to using a 19" whip on 10m), from...

The WIA seems to still think that VHF is only line of sight. What caused that barb?? I only use the WIA info. Theirs and whatever info is on this site is only as good as people keeping it up to date. The WIA set has continuous updates i.e. as information comes in their monthly summary is updated. h...

Myself and a few colleagues use the Manson SPA-8330, if you don't need the metered types. Quiet fan, only comes on when needed and switches off fairly quickly. I have two of them running things from LF to 3GHz and no noise detected. http://www.manson.com.hk/products/detail/219 http://users.tpg.com.a...

Re: More re NBN interference.
Well done Steen, and to the WIA. It would be nice to think they will do the same with ALL installations from now on, rather than continue with a standard install and only react if someone complains. It will be a tad difficult if we get interference from a neighbour's installation, and they don't hav...

I had the same tuning strife with a 6m whip on the boot. I'd read that with some modern vehicles the boot "skin" was not always grounded to the mounting arms due to paint and rust prevention material, and in particular the whole thing was not necessarily electrically grounded to the body o...

Townsville isn't planned to be decommissioned. FWIW there are about 260 NDBs Australia wide, most owned by Airservices and the others owned privately and by Defence. 112 will remain Australia wide. https://www.casa.gov.au/sites/g/files/net351/f/_assets/main/newrules/airspace/download/draft-nprm1105a...

Likewise, and the rest well said, Wayne.Over the past couple of years I have contacted the ACMA about several issues, including technical ones, and found them to be very helpful

Re: Exam / Licence Price & Young People ..
Don't think that the future in amateur radio is with the youth, in the USA 5 year old children get licences. Do you seriously think amateur radio gets any advantage from this With an interest in radio communications, electronics etc. sparked at an early age, that may well develop over time and resu...
