Re: SK: Dave Macnaughton - VK2BA
I never met Dave in the flesh but a true gentleman of radio......an extremely keen but an extremely courteous operator who to me over 40 years of operating always demonstrated what could only be described as the "true radio ham spirit". Despite the "tag" of some very bad operator...

Re: Why wspr is so good
There are also obvious advantages in the coding and bandwidth reduction techniques....and that is the secret. The advantages of averaging, reduced bandwidth coding, plus receiver signal recovery make this mode (today) at the sharp end of extreme weak signal recovery. Check is out: 2015-01-26 19:26 E...

Re: VHF/UHF/uWave - different prop over the same path
G'day again Steve.......... There are a plethora of things at play here but I tend to reduce a problem to it's lowest common denominator, which in a nutshell means the most likely cause. This "frequency" selective path effect is not a new phenomena and is a critical parameter in any link o...

Re: VHF/UHF/uWave - different prop over the same path
Hi Scott.....I'm not overlay familiar any with the details of the path but I can see that there is an obvious problem with obstructions. My first question would be ....Was the gear working ? (sorry but that's the most obvious) Secondly, because the path is obscured then we have to take into account ...

Hi Jen do you think, I recon you've seen better legs on a table :D Yes, what about the quintessential Rock Star.......Gav you sounded like Rod Stewart on AU backscatter. Not a good look! or sound as the case maybe :D Had a good session on the hill, as per usual the weather plays a big part in the en...

Hi Chas
No difference noted here........ 59.....LOUD
Appreciate the effort from both you & David (I'm sure Ken's handy work is in there as well) . I can testify that both beacons have been ON for a very long time.

Re: WSPR 160m
Hi Luke Yes, the "DX"on 160mx is not really dependent on Solar radiation in the same way that 6mx is. When I mention the parallels it's more about the propagation. Occasionally ....that means "not very often"....you get a pipeline effect where DX stations are biblically strong bu...
Re: WSPR 160m
Thanks Luke Mixed bag here of NBN satellite and 3G....go figure! The household (aka my son) uses virtually all the bandwidth on the NBN, while I wallow around on the 3G. It's one of those gonna jobs...I had network connectivity to the house via a long haul wireless LAN modem but things changed. I'll...

Sounds like it will stir up some activity! It's an amazing mode of propagation that has the potential to be used by all!

Re: WSPR 160m
HI Guys
Finally considered using Dimension 4, for NTP updates, not a fan be we'll see how we go? I'll be txing again tonight on 160mx WSPR let me know if I loose time sync. I know my puta time drifts so we'll now see if the DM4 app. keeps time sync for me.

Re: Meteor Scatter to Northern Queensland
HI Crew Well we are always keen to look further a field. It would be nice to get more stations active on this mode. Wayne....If you are JT65 capable then you are FSK441 capable, both modes are a subset of the same application (WSJT). Success rate for Meteor scatter is fluky, success can be enhanced ...

Re: VOR Frequency listing updated
I did take sometime collating all the data, some of the Pacific Island data was not so obvious. The beauty I think of the VORs as an MUF/path indicator is they are so widely dispersed. It is amazing how often DX VORs are detected. I remember distinctly one late night (around 11.00 pm & long befo...

VOR Frequency listing updated
Hi folks.... While things were a bit quiet on the RF propagation side of things I've taken the opportunity to enter all the Australian, New Zealand and close in Pacific island VOR information in the Early Warning database. You'll need to select 108 to 144 MHz frequency range and then select all. The...
