Re: Repeaters & Callsigns

Hillary, looks like VK2RNG 147.300 has either closed down or moved...
In saying that a new repeater VK2RUW has surfaced in the Illawarra region on 146.975Mhz.
Appears (at times) to be linked with VK2RUW on 146.675Mhz & VK2RMP 146.850 at Maddens Plains.
No doubt more to come...

Re: What's on your Workbench?

From: VHF UHF Microwave - VK ZL Amateur Radio Pages. 2 December at 08:28 Not quite earth shattering operational stuff... FYI (on the bench stuff) Had some "me time" yesterday so I finished off my portable VHF/UHF "rack". Mounted a Meanwell mains to 12V@10A SMPS at the rear, then ...

Re: Ex-Commercial Radios On 6m ?

A bit pricey, but do-able is the Kenwood TK6110-2 . Only FM & 32ch but a 70w PA . Some can do both 10m repeater freqs & 6m channels. Software is readily available & only needs a hex converter prg to get em up n going (plus a tune). From this old post I did buy one from the U.S. Only rea...

Hybrid Rings

Hi All, Been lumping thru all that is available on Guggle but either I'm missing the point (or just getting older). For a design of a UHF or a VHF ring so as to have 2 VHF or 2 UHF radios on a single antenna with the ability of operating one while the other is chugging along (monitoring a different ...

Re: AO-85 Amazing foot print

No worries Rob.
I did reload the keps but still no reference to the sat.
BTW I might try another tracking program as Gpredict appears not to have a screen predict like Gorbtrak did (& that was very handy too.)
Anyway thanks for your help with the prgm & edit keps info.

Re: AO-85 Amazing foot print

To include AO-85 in Gpredict it is necessary to download the tle's from AMSAT-NA http://www.amsat.org/amsat/ftp/keps/current/nasabare.txt This file contains all the amateur sats. of interest as well and could be set as the default update location instead of CELESTRAK. VK3MQ Hi Rob, I have downloade...

Re: Diamond V2000A cap values

A silly aside question, but how can a 2.4m long antenna be a 5/8 on 6m, which is 3.75m ;) Base loaded perhaps? A phasing section, somewhere towards the top of the antenna? Maybe of coax sections? Never owned a commercially made antenna for any of my bands on vhf/uhf. I made a j-pole (for 2mtrs) fro...

Re: Securing coax to colorbond roof.

Lance, Whilst this thread may well be drawing to a close... :eh: My runs of RG213/RG8/Rotator cable just lay upon the clip-lock roof (at my old house) The idea of putting all of them in PVC tube had been thought of but the ONLY cable to suffer from the elements was the rotator cable. The shield had ...

Re: Running costs VK3RRU

From left of field... I've read the various comments and agree with most, although the WSPR option is purely data driven, not your typical "old fashioned" ICW identification. Anyway, how about a unit where the beacon custodians are able to "manually activate" the beacon remotely ...

Re: Language choice on repeaters

Here in Sydney there are a multitude of non-english speakers on VHF & UHF, but they seem to establish contact on the repeaters, then move off to a simplex freq for their conversations. That's fine if they can hear each other, but for non-lengthy overs, I don't mind on repeaters. :!: Be...

Re: 160m 1/4 wave vertical

Hi All.. I realise this is NOT a vertical but... I tried an SO239 Square connector socket, shorted centre to earth, then connected my 80m dipole (coax feeder) and used a tuner (single wire input) for final adjustments. Basically a T antenna (of sorts) I works but I don't get on Top Band much these d...

Hi Ash, A bit like loading up a gum tree for optimum portable radiation? Would this mean that if you were using a small Bonsai, it would be similar to your clubs coat hanger scenario, a frequency of the UHF region? Maybe a weeping Willow might load at 14Mhz with a roll off at 10Mhz? I love your thou...

After reading some of the comments... Remote interfacing/linking of amateur repeaters? How about a similar service like in New Zealand (they have their "National System" on UHF), where a city/state/national communications linked network is available 24/7 to anyone to use. ...
