But when conditions are favorably into your neck of the woods, I do listen for the repeaters as I only have FM mode.
However, main listen/hope/chat freq is always 52.525 FM.

Re: AR Cover - EMR exposure
How's this for a quick fix? (all be it very radical & un-enforceable) Switch off all broadcast radio transmitters (AM & FM) Turn off all commercial two way radio users. Turn off all TV transmitters. Turn off all satellite services. Turn off all mobile phone carriers. So.... What's th...

Re: Garage Door Opener Interference
Is there anyway of encasing the receiver board in a metal box?
Or wrapping tin foil around it (being very careful not short anything, well Durrr) see if that helps, better that spending big on their design fault at your cost!!!
Hey, bubble wrap might be a good insulator before the tin foil.

Re: Garage Door Opener Interference
Erwin, Try some clip-on ferrite beads from Jaycar (4pk for $10). These little beasties are great! My suggestion is to clip one on the mains lead AT THE WALL PLUG & then another (if required) at the DOOR MOTOR. As has been suggested the SMPSU (switch mode power supplies) are a great generator of ...

Re: Antenna steering
How would you use a slinky as a form of transmission line ? (I can think of a couple of methods, but we'll use your brain for this exercise.) Well, the slinky would be similar to a twin line open feeder, only that the twin line feeder is normally housed in a can for the highest frequency requ...

Re: ARNSW B'cast on VK2RMP
Hi Adrian,
Nothing again this morning, but it appears to be an automatic hook up from a feeder frequency on VHF.
I usually listen on 52.525FM direct from Dural (here in local zone).
I note that the audio level (for the retransmit on the repeater) needs to be increased significantly.

ARNSW B'cast on VK2RMP
Noticed the AR NSW broadcast was relayed onto the VK2RMP (53.650) outlet last Sunday, without any reference to being automated or otherwise.
Nice but no one to call back to? Maybe there'll be a human voice at the other end this Sunday?
If ya don't ask.....

My head is hurting Trash, But how this for the height of the building.... Assume your finger is say 20mm wide, apply a scale to that and add more fingers to the Horizontal plane. The more fingers, the more the multiple of scale increases proportionately. So, if 20mm (one finger)= 10mtrs (at 5...

I have considered a trade in on the one leaving the door open - the change-over prices is enormous... :) Of course you're not blaming the poor dumb freezer???? BTW would the hassle (for another wife/significant other) be worth-it in the long run? Simple... just empty the freezer & lob it all in...

Try www.nzart.org.nz first that web site covers all the details for the Amateur radio enthusiast in that part of the world. Having said that, strike the iron while it's hot & upgrade, that way there's no need to worry. Keep up the enthusiasm & go for gold!!! Try this one too... http:/...

Re: That 13cm issue
Got my letter today.
But I'm on wide band FM-TV spots, so it is of small consequence to my current operating situation.
Sorry to the ops who do use it.

What? Repeaters? VK2XQ? Am I reading the right stuff?
The Elder Logger Statesman using FM & Repeaters, shock horror!
You're OK, old magoo, it happens to us all.

We should ALL be proud of who & where we are on the radio bands. HF in particular, but no lesser the many other VHF/UHF bands that are worked at very low power or for working weak long distance paths. Don't be speaking too casually, as a DX station might just be hunting for you!! (&...

Re: Need help getting started with ATV
Marc, My first 23cm ATV Wide-band Tune-able Rx was a kit & although it was a little challenging, very rewarding to say "I built that". As for antennas, a loop-yagi is the way to go, however an 8 over 8 is also a goer ( H plane antenna). As we do not have any Digital ATV Repeaters in Sy...

After I secured my novice ticket (eons ago, when Adam was a youngster) & wanting to be UNIQUE, I took the next available call-sign from the allocations form Dept Of Comms (now A.C.M.A) & had been very happy with it. When I upgraded I applied for (and was issued) with my current UNIQUE call-s...

Re: Calling frequencies (yes again!)
I agree. The only time I have ever heard anyone on 52.525 is during callbacks after the Sunday broadcast. And very regrettably, not all callers (after the broadcast) even wish to engage in a short banter session. Must be all off to 50.110 for the DX. (making a joke fellas, just a joke) :? *OFF tpoi...

Re: Calling frequencies (yes again!)
Blimey....
I'll just stick to 52.525 FM.
Less aggro up there & far more of a challenge for some outta town stations.
(Not that SSB or CW is any different to FM, just a different operating style, each to their own)
From a recent arrival on 6M (April '12)
